I do find (to get back on topic) that whole manly-bits-in-a-skirt thing to be one of the things I like most about burner culture. 8) Seems like that would be handy for another activity I read about: sunrise blowjobs out at the trash fence. Or has that tradition been abandoned since the BLM got night-vision goggles? Okay then, to be serious, I can't imagine how that could credibly work out as cool. For example, when I told my Mom I was going to "an arts festival" and would be "camping in the desert" for a week without my husband & kids, she had one question:

"Who told you you could do that?"

She's my mother, and despite our lack of common ground, we manage to maintain a courteous relationship. But imagine us so estranged that we could each embark on this enormous enterprise/pilgrimage/what have you and not even mention it to each other. We would really have to be enemies for that to happen. And no I do not think it would be cool to run into a closely-related enemy on the playa. Interpersonal drama is not what I am looking for there. Of course, your definition of "cool" might not be congruent with mine.

Or you might be writing an Oedipus Rex-kinda story, where people need to gouge their own eyes out at the end.

MyDearFriend, the median age in our camp is in the low to mid 40s. But we go from 21 to 80 so everyone is on the shady side of some number.

Every time I read something on ePlaya I'm floored. Whether it's some posting about the therapeutic benefits of soaking one's playa feet in fresh vomit (I laughed so hard at work I was in tears) to the deep conversations about technical issues, science and culture ...

I'm still on the fence about going, to be honest, because of financial issues and commitments. But, every time I read something here, I think I need to go to this, I need to meet these people, experience the craziness.

In the long run, the money won't matter, I won't remember the crappy reporter job and my other commitments won't matter much, but I'll remember Burning Man.

I want to make a point to meet you guys, or at least some of you.
