Problem of Vanishing Street Signs after the Man Burns - WTD?
!
That ebay scumbag in addition to buying a 4 dollar harmonica sold a 2600 dollar watch. Guess the 35 bucks for street signs is much needed dough. After the remarks in his auction listing I would hope that he gets banned from future participation in BM. Seller in SF.

These are parts of an actual street sign from the 2006 edition of Burning Man., that gathering of loonies that is unmatched anywhere on the planet. If you were there, this would make a great souvenir or memento. If you weren't, then these artifacts will allow you to be there in spirit. What the Hey. Maybe you can just bullshit everybody and talk about all the ladies you scored with and all the dope you took while passing these babies around. I don't have to know.

How about looking at the camps around you, getting to know the city and it's layout and learning about your surroundings so you don't get lost? The theme camps on the Esplanade for the most part stay up until Sunday or Monday and surely people can count ring streets. Or look for landmarks like the AEZ tower and other things to get your bearings! And when all else fails do what others did this year...make your own signs and post them...which in a few cases looked even better than the swiped ORG made stuff. The last time I checked the event was about radical self-expression and art..so why not make your own fucking signs? Or post stuff at the corners indicating where various camps are located? The street signs and posts have a lot of untapped potential for art....
Don't be looking for reasons to mount a witch-hunt. If that's your thing, stay in the City.

Re: the signs
Why doesn't that ever happen to me? I had to drug myself!universalspirit wrote:i was drugged by someone else and needed those damn signs!
After the signs were stolen, I put up a piece of cardboard with "2:30" scrawled on the intersection pole at my camp on Hope, and also a el-wire. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy when people would ride by all night saying "what street is this? o it's 2:30!" It's a long way between streets out at the edge.

Ebay wants a police complaint or something from burning man itself.
I hope someone will inform the org.
More complaints to ebay won't hurt from you guys.

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

ummmm, maybe i'm the only one that noticed something. At every street intersection there is an orange stick thing coming out of the ground. If you go up to them it has the street letter and number on it. B 4:30 was near me for example. Look for them next time. I had no trouble finding my way around.

This was the first year that the DPW wrote the street name on each of the orange posts. The system was put in place for ESD purposes, and useful for folks after Saturday when the signs traditionally disappear. Yes, I said *traditionally*. This is not a new issue. Honeyman (the original creator of the street signs) once told me that he was honored to have them stolen. I kind of hope each year that my pottie signs are stolen as soveneirs at the end of the Event. The make-shift cardboard signs that materialize after the "official" signs are the next step in radical self-reliance. That someone thought to sell them on eBay is kind of tacky, and I'm glad that he got no buyers. It's simply against "the spirit of BM" (whatever that means) and they should be gifted anyway. I especially don't appreciate that he implied that BM is only about sex & drugs. He obviously doesn't "get it" and hopefully won't come back.
