Other festivals fail decommodification while BMORG pursues it

Post by some seeing eye » Mon Jan 17, 2022 5:42 pm

I place the shift in participant critique of PnP with our own Mr Jackass and Sherpa Beth. That precipitated the cultural direction setting process and a reevaluation of outside services.

This Tuesday January 18 5PM Pacific Time there is a discussion

“Campfire Talk” on changes being made to follow up on the Cultural Direction Setting initiative

Focused on more of the news around PnPs, etcetera we’ve been waiting for: https://here.burningman.org/event/campfire-talks-3

It's free to register.

Along the Fest300-Everfest reason for being, founded by BM's own board member Chip C: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2022 ... ive-cousin The Fest300 after acquisitions is now owned by endeavorco.com, you can read their SEC filings.

Although all attendees are 'participating in their own way, even if just spectators', it seems that the org may have finally realized (accepted?) that with an abundance of participants, BRC can occur without catering (Freudian slip) to the PnP PAYcation. It's better for potential PAYcationers too, as PAYcationers are robbed of the myriad riches of actually participating (no nod to the it's-just-a-camping-trip set).

Long gone are the days where someone who managed to scrape up the dollars could go in to a store front in Reno and get a ticket home. You can't even get a ticket without access to some kind of computer and the internet. No exclusion there... Just wait until the porta-potties are solar powered with AI controlled robotics that enforce single-ply by automated wiping.

This is no longer the event I remember and I am really torn about attending again. Now that the ticket info is out I have to decide whether I actually give a shit about anymore. $140 for a parking pass? Are we building a new highway for the Geothermal plant now?

WTF
Cultural appropriation? Do I go over to your house during one of your BDSM sessions and slap the Nazi SS officer hat off of your head? - Bob
