I know people tend to fawn over this couple.I’ve been at small events where they’ve been and I just can’t with the fawning. They’re ok, as far as I know, not saying their horrible at all.

I think many of the artists who had not shown in galleries really found they enjoyed the Smithsonian and Sotheby openings. It's a drug to have an in-person audience for most visual artists.

This is that. It is not a significant artist resume data point. But Burner art has been an economic boost to Reno, so saying "thanks" this way is A-OK.

What artists need to survive are collectors at increasing price points over time, in other words, the C-word, commodification! The other method of survival are university appointments. You just need an MFA, not a PhD.

Art with a big A and dollar sign is a rigid institution, like classical music. It wants to control its own product, rising out of traditional schools and critical love streams. Outsider art is like gold under dirt for them, a real possibility, but not a path with great odds for an artist since revenue for the outsider is more like a leak or squirt, not predictable. These two have a great chance to cash in, and get BIG artist strokes.

Burner Art was a big fuck you to that industry. “We make what we want with what we have and it can be great, and we don’t care about it’s value to some one else, it gets burned when we are done! “

Raising awareness of the burner brand and style gooses the revenue stream. Sierra Arts foundation, The Generator ($100 a month cost to a member) are laying the groundwork, and making burner year round job lives possible for a very few. The Generator’s annual flea market in its’ last incarnations was to raise money to help underwrite artists who could not afford the fees. This year it’s mission is to “spread art to all of Northern Nevada.” And take 30% of each vendor’s revenue.

Nobody wants to be the first, but no one wants to be left out once the pay outs start. A very successful group thing is an opportunity to bottle that magic and sell it. We agreed on principles, but money is still king of us all.

I’m ready to start harvesting all the co-opting dicks who won’t ever make their own shit, and can still get tickets. Look, I’m an Ottist.
