B-man is what you make it
B-man is what you make it
After reading through several of the threads regarding this topic, I don't think that I have any new/different things to say. But, I did want to chime in to repeat that like anything in life, BurningMan is what you make it. This was my 7th year, so I believe that I've seen and experienced lots of changes like so many other souls out there have. Each year is always so different for me, I've had some fantasic years and some really bad years. With that in mind, I always come away from the experience somewhat enlightened after being surrounded by so much love out on the playa. This year was again different since it was definately my most spiritual B-man experience. Although I was moved by so many interractions with people and had a good year, something was missing - I don't know exactly what, but the magic of what has kept me coming back for more (maybe expectations?) just wasn't there. This could be due to drama going on in our camp which I avoided this time around. Or it could be due to changes in myself combined with changes happening at B-Man. Whatever the case, I don't think that I'll be returning next year. I'm leaving B-man with a good feeling and as wierd as it sounds . . . . . a sense of closure after the last 7 years. Burning man for me has enriched my life in so many ways, but it's time for me to take a break. For all the NEWBIES on the B-Man scene, it's great that you've discovered this loving community, I'm a little envious of the ones who were moved by this year's experience for I too will always remember my first year. Best of wishes to all who will continue to make this event happen!

Agreed.
If you're some whiney artist who spent his entire life feeling persecuted, hated, and under funded, and go to Burning Man with the same feelings that's all you'll get out of it.
I on the other hand have gone through life thinking I'm FABULOUS! Like Britney SPEARS!!! Oh ma gawd she's incredible! I've got a petition going to get Ms. Spears to perform! Please sign it!

One thing that I've realized is that if you don't want to be disappointed from one year to the next, make each year unique in some way or to have no expectations whatsoever. Now my approach is to plan, do what we need to do, go, execute the plan, and whatever happens, happens. I think, "Well, we tried" and usually that's enough.
It's what you make it.
