[quote="Today's SF Chron"]BURNING MAN GOES GREEN

Merideth May, Chronicle Staff Writer

Sunday August 12, 2007

With the Burning Man art festival starting in the Nevada desert in two weeks, organizers are pulling out the stops to minimize the event’s contribution to global warming.

Encouraged by the resurgence of the green movement, Burning Man organizers and participants are taking a hard look at environmental impacts. Over 28,000 tons of greenhouse gases are produced by the sacred flaming temples, solar-powered electric cars shaped like cupcakes, hundreds of rumbling RVs and 37,000 "burners" who attend the week-long event on the dry Black Rock Desert, according to scientists.

"Burning Man does a great job of getting on the ground after the event and picking up every nail and speck of glitter, but we want to take that to the next level -- leaving no trace in the climate," said Marian Goodell, Burning Man's director of communications and business.

This year’s theme – “The Green Manâ€

Composting Guy! he just sits there and slowly entropy takes over.

Instead of a week, the event takes 300 years.

Transformus changed it up this year and did a different effigy.
Everyone said it was the best burn they ever had.

It's the best effigy burn I've seen, counting burning man.

We need a waffle man. 400ft tall for the tall man theme in 08. We could use oak and lots of gas. Let it get recycled being sold online along with the street signs.

Let's burn something built of hybrid cars.
We could ignite it with one of those exploding prius battery packs!

Element 11, formerly known as Synorgy has different ones every year. Try to make the Utah burn at least once. The 30 foot Gingerbread Man was the bestest ever!

Sunnuvabitch went up like the chimney it was.

I don't have a good shot of this year's Emerald Spiral, but it burned so hot the perimeter was moved three times, and we had to keep moving the empty fuel cans away. Cooling Man MY ASS! I'm gonna live in a cave by firelight when the world collapses.

They took special care that it wouldn't tip over.
Other than that, the perimeter operates on the "Don't be a schmuck' principle.

People move back pretty quick when it heats up.
It settled and flared four times.
It lit up on the inside and light from between the slats lit up everything.
It was full of christmas trees too.
It burned real good.
