You people do realize this topic area was originally for the "Politics & Philosophy" of Burning Man, not the United States of America?

You are welcome to participate, spectate, or ignore the discussion entirely. Nobody will be coerced into posting here.

Hmmm, I asume your for Obama. Who also wants socialized medicine. I think you might want to read up on Che.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Che_Guevara

He was a socialist. He wasn't a mass murderer. He carried out the law of his country. Just as Govenors of our states carry out death penalties. Yes he put a lot of people to death. Murderers, rapists, treasonists etc. He was saught by the CIA because his revolutionary power threatened our country. The US gov doesn't like it's people to hear about people over throwing governments that they're not happy with.

If we want to talk about powerful people that do mass murder, we don't need to look any further then our own country. How many Iraqis have died in our search for weapons of mass destruction. What have we done to stop it? Nothing basically. Look at our own judicial system. It's full of flaws too.

Che is considered a hero through out the world yet our media has only told us part of the story about him to make us believe what US government wants us to believe. I remember learning History in school from text books. Then I grew up and found other sources of historical fact. I was shocked to learn that what was in my textbooks as a kid were at most half truths.

It's been a more then a day and it's not news on the national circuit. That tells me that it's not news.

Well, there's the western idea that Che was a warlord and mass murder, and there's the pro-Cuban element which considers him a hero.

Meanwhile, Reporters Without Borders writes: " To visit websites or check their e-mail, Cubans have to use public access points such as Internet cafes, universities and “Youth computing centersâ€

I didn't post Cuba as my source. Wikipedia isn't Cuba.
Cuba has their laws just as China has theirs and we have ours.

As for the "key word" stuff in Cuba's computers... Have you forgotten that the US also does that. Ever read the Patriot Act? Not only your computer activity is monitored but your phone, cell, cable, transit, shopping is also monitored. We also jail people with the Patriot Act with no due process. At least the reporters in Cuba got a trial.

I was just pointing out a broader picture other then every country outside us and our allies is evil doers and wrong. There's multiple sides to every story. I choose not to listen to the side that's delivered by Fox news.

Do your own research, don't rely on media's point of view, which is often one sided, even though they are supposed to not be.

Big Brother is here, in America. And his name is GW.

Yeah, so if they have a lot in common does that make you a Bush supporter? I thought the Patriotic Act was an offense against freedom. It's okay that Cuba has been doing it since Castro came into power?
I choose not to listen to the side that's delivered by Fox news.
That's fine. The problem is, what you choose doesn't reflect the millions of other people out there who will vote and who aren't as clearly enlightened as you are.
Do your own research, don't rely on media's point of view, which is often one sided, even though they are supposed to not be.
(*ZB is a former editor with a degree in journalism and studied under a two-time Pulitzer-winning editorialist named Jon Franklin who taught media history and bias. But thanks for the advice.*)

So now that Obama's campaign has addressed the issue and acknowledged the incident, and the person who did it has been identified and interviewed and didn't deny it, will you now suggest that the space shuttle didn't blow up because it also happened to be covered on Fox News?

I'm no fan of FOX, but, by your logic it could be said that, say, CNN committed a sin of omission by NOT showing people that one of Obama's campaigners is a potential communist or Cuban propagandist...etc.
Big Brother is here, in America. And his name is GW.
Well, that should make Castro/Guevara fans very happy. So what's the problem?

All I'm saying is, Obama's got an unprecedentedly-hard fight ahead of him. He's a minority, fighting against an established white war hero with much more political experience than he has. Obama must beat the establishment, the racists, the Christian right, and so on. Some of those people he will need to support him served in the military during Korea or the Cold War or remember that communists put nuclear missiles in Cuba and pointed them at America. His people better police themselves because the Karl Rove types working for the Republicans are going to use everything they have to convince the moderates and indies. Otherwise, as you have clearly seen, networks like Fox will use it against him.

It's a simple concept. And, by the way, Che Guevara was a mass-murdering warlord who abandoned his family to establish what we seem to agree is a Big Brother government. And whenever you see these numbskulls running around in Che Guevara schwag, they're supporting capitalism. The T-shirts were probably made in Chinese sweatshops, printed by American business owners and sold by somebody who makes a capitalist profit selling T-shirts to clueless hipsters.

I love that. It makes about as much sense as Joan Baez and the Reverend flying into Burning Man and tooling around on a giant "art bus"
protesting consumerism and oil dependence.

Or maybe American families float to Cuba from Miami and not the other way around. What's that all about?

You seemed to miss my point completely.

BTW, Che had a falling out with Castro not long after the change of power. He didn't agree with where Castro was going. It was Castro that did the missle bit. I suggest you travel outside the US and explore the factual world with out Ted Turner's influence. I also never said I agreed with the whole Patriot Act. There ARE many parts of it that are valid and some that are questionable. Have you ever read it? Have you ever researched Che? Outside of watching it on US TV or US textbooks? I urge you to actually research this stuff for yourself without siting sources that are owned by the big media conglomerates. Most of Americans are sheep to them. We will believe anything we see or read under the logic that "Well newspapers need to tell the truth" AND the NYTimes won many Pulitzers. Those are the same people that believe that Che was a mass murderer. Just because your a journalist doesn't mean your right. Media hangs more people then Che ever did.

And no offence, but Dear Abby is also a journalist as is Dan Savage.

See ya on the playa, I'll buy you a beer and we can bitch about how much our country is fucked up.

Oh ya, GO OBAMA and fuck the Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton nepetism.

It's an origin myth. Plain and simple. I was lucky (?) enough to grow up in Berkeley and have teachers tell us about CIA assasinations and the like. Still, I was in my 30s before I found out about our invasion of Russia.

Well, you have no idea where I've been, where I've traveled, what I've explored or what I done, but I see you're clearly happy to assume on my behalf.

No thanks. I don't need to go to France or Zimbabwe to know that Guevara was a mass murderer and that Cuba suppresses journalistic freedom.

Also, Ted Turner doesn't own Fox, and CNN didn't carry the story so I don't know WTF "Ted Turner" has to do with anything.
