David Best on the Viking Youth Power Hour

Over the past few years key members of Detroit's Burning Man community have worked in conjunction with BRAF, Detroit Blight Busters, and artist David Best to create the Detroit Dream Project. Not without it's obstacles, the Detroit Dream Project finally came to fruit in a ten day period between June 10th to 20th, 2008.

The Vikings ventured out to Detroit to help a bit with the Temple build and to interview temple artist David Best. We discussed the Detroit Dream Project, his Burning Man Temple's, David's work prior to Burning Man, work he's planning for the future and much, much more.

David is one of the most enjoyable people I've had the opportunity to spend time with, somehow managing to fit a 600lb heart in a 5'6" frame. He is that unique kind of person who inspires not so much by his work - which is astounding - but by his enthusiasm for his work, for life and the confusion of life, and for the people who work with him coalescing nothing short of the very material of Dreams.

David is a great great guy, but is has to be on his terms and when He wishes to be. Catch him when he's not and you'd see a different picture.

He's done a great job for the BM experience and hope he always will. I myself will pass him up, but not his art. Some people are humble and their heart always worn on the outside. They extrude the BM community through their pores. David does it only though his art. He is what he is and I can accept that.

Keep up the great art Dave!
