larry,
it has now been one week. the people have spoken, in droves.
the people have clearly said they want a new grand experiment within the grand experiment that is burning man. there is no grand experiment more interesting and compelling than a working burning man.
unfortunately, the current burning man is stale. and there looks to be even more staleness on the horizon. but look, everyone has now gathered and said they want to reapply themselves to the grand experiment with passion. they want to be challenged and they want to do the work.
are you going to allow us this challenge and work?
are you going to accept the gift?
we await your response with great enthusiasm and interest. we have deep confidence in your leadership. and we look forward to applying ourselves to the good work that lies ahead with you.

Jim:
Please read the entire thread on the subject of your petition, where eloquent, thoughtful people are disagreeing with you.
By continuing to announce that you have some sort of overwhelming mandate, you are showing your disdain for the people and their involvement in the BM project.
You have discredited your petition and the other drafters of it by continuing in this vein.
I'm guessing the BuMP people aren't as stupid as you think they are. And neither are we.
Considering your reaction to burners who think differently than you do, i would shudder to think that you would ever be involved in 'curation.'
'Yours,'
Rian

I quote Chicken John's signature to my parody "Britney Spears in BRC" (BSinBRC) ( http://www.petitiononline.com/bsinbrc/petition.html ):
"I will kill you." -- Chicken John
I'm surprised he didn't call Bob Novak and leak my Undercover CIA wife's name to the press.

Which people? All the people I've spoken to are prone to eye-rolling when the subject of the Artist Ultimatum comes up.
Are you taking ques from the Bush administration on how to propagandize? I hardly think you have a mandate from The People. Those who bothered to read the Aritst Ultimatum would probably have found the usage of the word "Borg", and the "it's the art stupid" type of comments to be angry and hostile: hardly feelings people associate with Burning Man.
So Jim, where is your scientific survey of the people? A few (tens? Hundreds?) signatures just means you found a some people who A) read your statement and agree with it, B) didn't read your ultimatum but think they might agree with it's summary at the top, or C) are just me too's that have no brain what-so-ver.
Seriously Jim, I think some of the ideas in the Ultimatum are great ideas. I think it's really unfortunate though that you set up the request as an ultimatum which creates a confrontation rather than enlisting those in BMorg to join your forward thinking. Instead you insult the people the letter is directed to (calling them Borg, calling them stupid), and make demands that you are in no position to make. I wouldn't be surprised if the orgs response is a simple, "we'll come see your art at the event you start, it was nice having you here for as long as we did, goodbye."

How darest though speak of his Holiness with eyes unaverted!
Fall to thou knees, dirty heathen- for it is not for thee to question the wisdom of the Hatted One!
Repent! Listen to thy Techno Psalms and speak the words of the Unwashed Ones.
Art is the Name of... uh... that dude I scored my X from.
(please don't look behind the curtain, it only makes hings worse...)

The more I read this the more it reminds me of the Republican party's tatics in claiming mandates and victories where there are none.jimmason wrote:larry,
