Exactly Captain. That threw me too. When I saw it I just thought "Oh, here we go again. Somebody's gotta PC up the place." But the thread has now become interesting and great points have been made so it was worth it. CHANGE THE TITLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember when I got my first big box of Crayola crayons. When I opened it up, I marveled at all the colors. It spoke to me. All these colors, in one box. All the same, but different. The differences were all good. They all sustained a colorful world of imagination. Colors make the world a more interesting place to live.

I have always seen people in the same light. Color does not make a person. What is inside makes them and I am certainly glad we are all different, no matter our color.
I really would like to change the world, but I do not have access to the source code!

Everyone is pretty much Playa colored after a couple days anyway. I never even though about or noticed anyone's "color".

So I think all my points have been stated already...

Part of the challenge is perception, but that deals the individual. A good question is what are they exposed to in their community? That will tell you were they will "hang out". I've had the same response organizing TEDx events for the past 7 years. I have connected with more non-minority people than minorities. Why? Birds of a feather, I'd say...except the birds are the same color, just "like-minded". I have many friends who have never heard of TED, but once I introduce them, they are hooked. Burning Man is the same way, except the culture for minority groups don't normally expose individuals around interactive art, self expression, dusty conditions, etc.

I think the event is expanding and evolving at its own pace. I think this is fairly normal, which is good for me.

And for the record, I love camping. I'm going camping this weekend with about 20+ others friends who are the same complexion as me, and have been going a number of years to boot. :D :D

See you in the dust...

Personal opinion here.

Burners are a nano minority in USA culture and a pico minority worldwide. Burning Man is a messianic social movement intent on saving the world by the 10 Principles.

But it is like any small group in its aspirations to be more diverse. The way to do that are one to one engagements in local parties, get togethers and campouts with whomever you think we need more of.

Hahaha I love you each above! I'll try harder as appropriate in my every post to offer targets for eplaya arrows! And I welcome the arrows!!!

Seriously, not ironically. Because you all are smart and understand deeply the BM ethos from experience!

(Where is the target smiley?) (And I will occasionally throw in BM as a cult in my posts, though cult members may protest. Hey, I'm a cult member!)

Those who are able to see beyond the shadows and lies of their culture will never be understood, let alone believed by the masses.

There's already plenty of diversity at the event.

Damn, Ratty, at least you went at it with your usual energy, and persisted when the going got a little rough. I admire you.

And while I appreciate Savannah for so much of her muchness, I also like it when she talks about being mixed race and about being mixed race at the burn. She's sharp, she's sweet, she tells me things I nver would have guessed.
