Festival Promotion Verses Decommodification is a Real Concern

Post by some seeing eye » Sat May 19, 2018 9:28 am

Marketers and sales persons are continuously adapting and evolving to sell stuff. In my experience most consumer marketing is fraudulent.

While there is a good argument that the Burning Man corp decommodification can be improved, the evil side of what it could be is happening is around us all the time.

An example I found in my spam inbox today:

"Fest More Spend Less

Get *fest Premium for as low as $3.99/month.

Introducing our new monthly pricing option for

*fest Premium

Join *fest Premium and live your fest life with

discounted festival tickets
free VIP upgrades
special offers to shop at festival-related brands
and so much more...

And the best part is that we're always adding more. More perks, more partners, more savings.

Sickening. And that is what Burning Man could become.

I can't remember if the person connected to the company behind this promotion is still on the BM board. In any case, thanks to the board for not taking Burning Man down this "do evil" path.
