Hi,
Please, someone in authority let us all know...
There are SO many lost bikes on the "lost" thread
but not a single response! It would help us all...
My bike was "borrowed"/"appropriated" this year.
I've been scouring the BM website and cannot find
something explaining what happens to bikes that
were found after the event this year.
I found this report about what happened after BM2003:
http://afterburn.burningman.com/03/community/bikes.html
but nothing authoritative about 2004.
I tried mailing [email protected], no response.
Is my bike already given to charity?
Will it reappear in San Francisco if, as I suspect, some
stoned raver "moved" it to a random location for me?
Next year I will certainly put my camp location on my
bike, and use the lock more often.
Thanks much!
what happened to BIKES found in 2004 cleanup?

not really certain
hi,
i don't have any sort of official answer, but i'll tell you what we did with a bike that was abandoned in the neighborhood we camped in.
we first verified with the folks left in the vicinity (whom we knew) that it was not theirs. as we got in line for exodus, one of us rode the bike down to center camp.
we'd heard they collected abandoned bikes there (maybe at lost and found) and so we gave it a shot, hoping the person would get their (fairly nice) bike back.
playa info was pretty much gone (this was late monday) so my beau took it to the rangers. they said they didn't know of any collection spot, but it could be donated to the rangers. so that's what we did.
i don't remember much about the bike, but if you want give them a call, they might have it.
good luck.

I aint official or nothin' but, I got word that a whole trailer load of bikes (about 400 or so) have landed here in RNO. None of them is pretty. They were all off-loaded from the playa where NoN-responsabilitarians had ditched them. The guy who knew the guy who received this "gift" said they were gonna fix 'em up and give 'em away at X-mas. Sorry...nothing else...
(here comes) When I got MY bike stolen in 2001 I was crushed. Back then the lovely ORG had a "get these bikes the hell away from us" day and I stopped by the old ARMY Street office and the lovely Harley and Marian gave me two bikes to make up for the one I "lost". I think you should chalk it up to EXP and let it go...like the playa dust thru the hour glass...these are the days of Black Rock City.
