Land speeder

Post by jbelson » Tue Sep 16, 2003 4:43 pm

The one art car I though most appropriate for the landscape was luke skywalkers land speeder.
Has anyone seen one previously at BRC?

I'll be impressed when someone brings one that actually hovers.

Being that Luke was just a rural farm orphan, its very obvious, to me at least, that his Land Speeder was a piece of shit. It was like a 1986 Hyundai Excel, 1983 Ford Escort or a Pontiac Fiero (any year).

I suggest that you design and build the type of vehicle that you imagine the high-rollin' elite in Tatooine cruised around in. I'll be glad to hitch a ride onto that instead of another not-quite-brown space-hooptie.

They even had a drag race - with an unrelated wandering jedi officiating...

Looks like there must have been at least THREE this year, because I saw another very large one with a lot more detail than either of those.

Luke's Landspeeder...

Post by cpuGary » Tue Sep 23, 2003 12:48 pm

I'm the guy who built Luke's Landspeeder. 2003 was my third year, the Landspeeder was on the playa in 2002, too. There were three Landspeeders on the playa in 2003, I got in a "drag race" with Mr. Wizard from the litebright camp. I'm the guy who looks like / doesn't look like George Lucas. :o)

Thank you all for your kind words and comments.

There were in fact three but we only raced two...

Post by MrWizzard » Tue Sep 23, 2003 2:59 pm

There were at least three landspeeders this year; I built one (parked @ LiteBrite on the Esplanade & 3:30) and Gary built one (parked a block away @ 3:00) which he also had last year; mine was new this year... There was a third over by Pinkys build from a Buick and HUGE!

I invited all the landspeeders to race at high noon by the Man on Saturday - only Gary showed up and we raced... Let me tell you there are few things as fun as racing landspeeders in the desert!

There is a pic of my wife & I in our landspeeder here:

before the race:

Pic of Gary & I with the 'speeders after the race:

and finally the Buick 'speeder:

cheers,

Mr. Wizzard

Well, if you don't make a Landspeeder, how about those cool smaller things they ride on in the forest in Return of the Jedi. They're like floating dirt bikes. Sorry, I'm not a huge Star Wars fan and forget thier name...but those things rock!
