Circulating Extend Performances - Acoustical & Circle St

Post by EricMagic » Sat Mar 27, 2004 3:36 pm

Participation Theme: Ever Circulating Performance, Expressive Acoustical Performances of Many Types with partial to full participation of audience.

Scope of Performances: Open Mike Sign Up - Can range from philosophy, comedy, storytelling, instruments, singing, and dancing, small theater, small opera, magic, and can even include science lectures, conspiracy theories, lively discussions on whatever. Anywhere from 1 to 7 main performers at one time, with of course the audience as needed.

Name Ideas (so far) : Circulating Ideas Participating Audience Performances (CIPAP) or the
Ever Circulating Performance – Extending Out (ECP-EO)

Visual Theme: Main Dome with Center Circle Stage, Audience all around, and Small Circle Stages Near Perimeter of the Main Dome. Perimeter Dome on sides to act as backstage all around and/or audience/participants overflow. This perimeter Dome also represents how the performances of one or several actions ripple and extend out like ripples in the water after a pebble drops.

Dome Name Ideas (so far): Circles Theater (CT)

Basic Directions for the Theme:

Center Performance Dome
Nice size dome about 20 to 40 ft in diameter with a circle stage about
6' to 8' in diameter and 3' high. Also, can have about four to six small
circle stages near the perimeter which are about 3' to 6' in diameter and
about 2' to 3' high, which would be for more elaborate rotating
performances or floating stage among the participating audience. This
would also be great to have as a dance area every so often.

Perimeter Dome (ring) connected to Main Dome:
In addition, it would be nice to have an "outer dome ring enclave", that is all around the center dome, which can act as the backstage for special effects with flashlights or backup sound effect persons, or for overflow of audience/participants to hang out in case of bad weather, or extra popular performances. These can have secret doors and windows as needed, or rolled back where needed or be opened up as needed.

Organization:
The overall organization of performances and management could be flexible but here are the basic guidelines:

Minimum Staff Required:

Performance & Dome Directors - At least two Persons On Staff at All Times, and sometimes more:
Dome Director: Basically this is a position to monitor the good health of the Dome, its doors, and its backstage, and to make sure that there is orderly respect for the physical assists within the Dome.

Performance Director: This position requires some discretion and encouragement to get people to participate when needed, and to help get the most out of every performance for the audience. This position also directs who can go on the stage(s) and when; and to make sure no performance is very dangerous or extremely offensive or particularly hateful.

Ideal Staff:

Cleanup Directors - Get everyone to help and plan the cleaning to make it fun.

Outside Greeters and Performers – Basic encouraging and cheerleading and make people feel good as they come and go. These performers also help the overall feeling of the Circle Extension Theme.

Comfort or (Life Enhancement) Directors: Look for ways to help the overall comfort of the performers, audience and staff. Helping in finding ways to making access to water, food, or other goodies fairly easy and sometimes interesting. Just giving directions to the facilities, or giving out some cookies, or juice, or whatever comes to mind.

Stage Directors / Staff: Help with any needed props, or remote lighting, or sound effects to make the performances more interesting. At certain times, this can be done on an im’prov basis, providing the performers are aware of it and do not mind. The main thing is to add to the experience.

Others?: Maybe some more types of positions are needed, let me know if you have any good ideas.

Sing Up Performers: New Bill/Agenda everyday with persons signing up that morning, or the day before to perform.

Basic Time Slots for Different Performance Types (Tentative):
For example, here is a basic “possible” time schedule.

5:15 AM to 10 AM – Philosophers
15 Min. Performance Cleaning or Rest By everyone (sing, dance or walk uniquely)

10:15 AM to 12 Noon - Comedy
15 Min. Performance Cleaning or Rest By everyone( make it fun)

12:15 PM to 1:30 PM - Freestyle Expression and Singing 15 Min. Performance Cleaning By
15 Min. Performance Cleaning or Rest By everyone( make it fun)

1:45 PM to 4 PM - Story telling & Acoustic Instruments
15 Min. Performance Cleaning or Rest By everyone( make it fun)

4:15 PM to 8 PM - Comedy
15 Min. Performance Cleaning or Rest By everyone ( make it fun)

9 PM to 11 PM - To Be Decided
15 Min. Performance Cleaning or Rest By everyone( make it fun)

11:15 PM to 1 AM - Freestyle Full Participation Theater/Opera/Dance/Comedy
15 Min. Performance Cleaning or Rest By everyone( make it fun)

1:15 AM to 3 AM - Open for Discussion
15 Min. Performance Cleaning or Rest By everyone( make it fun)

3:15 AM to 5 AM - Mediation, Chanting, and performance Sleep
15 Min. Performance Cleaning or Rest By everyone( make it fun)

Or something like that, so this is a theme for persons who wish to perform in front of people, who want to view and be slightly part to all the way part of the performances. There can be a lot of good people performing that were not otherwise planning to, and likewise this can make a very unique place to relax and listen to many different ideas.

If interesting in helping making this theme dome (Circles Theater) let me or others know. We need to figure out who volunteers, who can contribute what, who has specific skills and interests, and how we can proceed, and where in cyber space we should start laying out our circling plans of persuasion and performances.

Team work is really needed for this one, so more leaders needed as well as followers/workers, and of course we love to have help from the gracious and great mix of leader/worker/follower.
