Astronomers wanted!

Post by SealBoy » Fri Jul 23, 2004 1:13 am

I know a lot of people who are stoked about the theme this year (it's gonna be awesome), but there are some people who are positively ecstatic: that's right, astronomy dorks!

Are you an amateur or professional astronomer? Do you enjoy explaining the wonders of the night sky to the public? Does being mistakenly called an "astrologer" make you cringe? If so, we need your help! We're looking for amateur and professional astronomers to help answer questions posted on an "Ask an Astronomer" bulletin board. The idea is to provide a forum for the citizens of Black Rock City to ask questions about the cosmos, and get responses from people who study this stuff. In keeping with the theme, people will be able to ask that "I've always wondered why..." question about our universe, and hopefully become awed at what they learn. Everyone will be able to read the previous posts to see what people have been talking about.

You can read the Playa Calendar entry here:
http://www.burningman.com/calendar/play ... e=20040830

We'll have textbooks and recent journals on hand for reference, and the responses will be limited to notecard-size in most cases. We're also thinking about having a small star party of sorts one night... Please contact me if you're interested in stopping by to help out at some point! No big time commitment, and it should be a lot of fun. Most species welcome (NO orcas, please.) E-mail:
