Tesseract Space OASIS

Post by ted939 » Sun Jul 25, 2004 12:46 am

Anybody a Wrinkle in Time fan?
Anybody wanna help set up an oasis far far out on the Playa?

So, yeah, I'm doing an oasis that doubles as a tribute to that early pioneer in Burning Man spirit, Madeleine L'Engle, and her most famous story, about space travel, A Wrinkle in Time.

TO INCLUDE: a very low profile tipi or other structure, push-button audio greeting, beverages, lights, snacks, washing station, seating, artwork depicting scenes from Wrinkle, and placards with excerpts from the story, that poignantly reflect the notions of Burning Man, this year's theme or experiences classically found at Burning Man. I boldfaced the things I could especially use help/contribution with.

Just picture – one of those classic long introspective journeys across the playa, day or night, where, suddenly, off in the distance -- is it a mirage? No, it is a nice place to rest, out on the outskirts of one’s space travel.

In the great hospitable tradition of nomadic cultures (esp. in deserts), the refreshments and restful atmosphere will be available for all who wander on their journey. Perhaps the wanderer will encounter other space nomads, traveling through space and time, and perhaps exploring themselves as well.

This Tesseract Space Oasis is one nice spot to find oneself, as written in the official Burning Man Theme description, “pausing in the stillness of the desert night, far from crowded streets and glaring lights, accompanied only by the moon and stars and the great shining arc of the Milky Way, you will confront a space that may go on forever - or it may not”.

There will also be a sign-in book/journal/art pad, where people may continue the great tradition of both community and of Madeleine L'Engle, by telling their stories, or continue the story that came before them!

Very nice idea. Somewhat isolated but very nice.
Pretty good imaginaition.

This type of idea gives reasons to extend the BMan to two weeks.
