Wireless internet access at Camp Klepto

Post by Jake » Thu Aug 05, 2004 10:31 am

Greetings fellow-burners,

One of our geeks will embark on a wireless adventure using a satellite dish and solar panels. So if you need to access the web for whatever reason and for whatever time, just swing by and we gladly hook you up. We probably have some machines lying around for you to use as well. We got nothing to plug, this is simply a playa project ;-)

Greetings

I will relay your questions to our CCN (Chief Camp Nerd) so he can answer them on this string.

Our CCN says:

wi-fi 802.11b, if the tablet PC does have an interface like that, then yes!

I have no idea what it means but there you go!

please organize with the embassy. they have been doing a satellite uplink since 1999 and wifi for the entire city.

i think the community would appreciate a stronger, faster uplink, then one uplink that's spread across the playa and a totally divergent network that is unable to access other playa services like playainfo, thingster, and playastation.

thanks for the sat-wifi!

Anybody have a working email address for somebody @ the embassy camp?
The email addresses listed at http://www.eugeneweb.com/~bm/ibm.html do not work.

Jake, can you ask your CCN if we can use your internet connection to make some VOIP phone calls? We will gladly share our VOIP devices with all.

We may have our own 1544 Kbps VSAT internet connection with 802.11b/g AP's setup with some high powered antennas.

I would love to collaborate with anyone interested in high speed wireless connectivity at BM this year.
Feel free to contact me directly.

Actually, you can email him yourself it you want. His email address is

peter at drunkcoders dot com

i am pretty clue-less about this stuff. you might want to send him an email to discuss all of this.
