Devirginizing Ceremony

Post by Savannahkitten » Sat Aug 07, 2004 5:49 pm

Greetings :D

I'm a semi-seasoned Burner bringing a couple virgins with me this year and my campmates and I'd like to welcome them with a special initiation ceremony on Wednesday night. Others are welcome to join us!

I have several ideas (I'll share them with you if you message me personally) but I'm looking for more input on what other Burners would have liked to experience if or had they been thru such a "ceremony" your first year. (I'm gonna keep my ideas to myself just in case the virgins are lurking on here.)

Last year and when I came through the entrance they told me that because there were so many vehicles coming in at the moment that they could not do any “virgin” initiation. I have felt cheated ever since. I’m just wondering what I missed, and should I still go through this ritual even though I’m technically no longer a virgin?

Hi Reboot,

I had a little virgin initiation involving paint smeared on my forehead and lots of welcome home hugs at the gate my first year. I really enjoyed that and immediately felt "at home." I have also experienced that the last year I went they have been too busy at the gate and that's why I wanted to welcome the virgins in addition to or just in case that happens again this year.

The devirginizing would be open to any Burner who missed out on the gate devirginizing and even those who just want something more than the gate version of welcome they got. I also think it's a great way for experienced Burners to meet new Burners and get them involved right away. So, in addition to virgin participants we are looking for creative devirginizers.

So yeah! Go thru this ritual especially since you feel cheated and wonder what you missed. And contribute your ideas and suggestions if you like...
I'm curious about what you expected or expect from your devirginizing.

I tried to read everything I could to prepare for my first burn last year including this board. If I remember correctly spanking seemed to be the most oft mentioned initiation so I guess that is what I expected. BM being what it is I thought I'd see something more creative. Ideas? Hmmm, some type of body adornment?

You're welcome to bring them to walk through the Tunnel of Transformation in the Infinite Oasis. It will be burning every night, including Wednesday.

If first-time burners get a vote, I vote for spanking. The virgins should be spanked. Hard.

The Infinite Oasis village, at Earth and 4:30 (or to be more precise, spanning from Earth to Jupiter @ 4:30).

The center of the IO plaza is a Native American medicine wheel (mind the rocks in the dark!), and the tunnel is at the center of the wheel. The same artist (Charlie Smith) created the Nausts for BM '02, which will also be making a return appearance at the compass points of the wheel.

I don't know the burn schedule for those, though I'd presume we'll have all five going at once at some point during the week.

OK, I'm informed the Nausts will probably burn out on the playa instead, but the tunnel will definitely be going each night.

FYI, there are also several "gatherings of the virgins" planned during the week (around 1 PM, I think, check the playa event calendar). The virgin group planning them is mostly congregated over on tribe. You may be able to find more events there for your friends, or recruit more virgins to your event.

There are only virgins at Burning Man!

One year is so different from year to year. sure it happens in the same place- the black rock desert, but the themes and the inventiveness of the people it really is rebirth from year to year. Even you have change from the year before. including most of the cells in your body, as well as the people you met last time!

Time to rediscover the Playa and your self!
