Mobility Ambassador Trveor Mills runs the Sextant Zip-Line

Sextant has wanted for some time to figure out how to get Mobility Camp down our Zip-Line.

After we met Trevor Mills we knew it could be done.

After several days of rigging a special chair and some interesting test runs, all under Trevor's expert guidance, we finally sent him safely up to the 48 ft clip-in point and down the 350 ft run.

It was the high point of my Burn, to say the least.

We're now planning to build an OSHA certified wheelchair accessible man cage so we can use the VR to take any member of Mobility Camp up to 50 ft for an awesome view, and potentially a Zip-Line run (we will continue to work on that).

This is why I go out there.

Thats just ten different kinds of awesome! Congrats to all!!! This is doing it right!

You know, some folks sit there and gripe because some imaginary "right" to special portos in deep playa has been violated, or the locks are a bit funky, and their entitlements are not being fully met. And then at the other end of the spectrum you have guys like these amazing folks who want to DO IT ALL and BRING IT. Zip line? Fuck yeah!!!

I pity the first bunch, but I stand totally in awe of the second bunch. Folks who move to overcome and totally kick their disability to the curb rock.

And Kudos to Team Torrey for helping these dreams to happen!

"Imaginary right" what? To be able to use a porto just as every other fucker can use a porto? I wouldn't call that an imaginary right, I'd call it an equal right. But that's just me...
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

Lucky: The charge being made by a certain person in another thread was one of "clear discrimination", refering of course to the operative law found in the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as amended in 2008. Go read that act before going any further. Its important.

You might note that Burningman doesnt fall under any of the five titles of the ADA. Neither is there any Nevada statute that applies. Thus there is no right at law to have ANY special accomodation at such a remote, private, and temporary event. That BM does indeed make such services available is a testament to their sensitivities and wish to include all comers, but such efforts are NOT legally required. Any failure to provide such accomodations all over the event is NOT "clear discrimination" and is not a legal "right" as alleged by that poster. Two words: radical entitlement.

Now, should we seek, as individuals, to achieve a better balance? Absolutely! Would I personally support more bathrooms for the differently abled? You betcha. But this is a personal, non-legal, choice. I reject the opinion of a certain entitled and bitchy poster that he is entitled to more bathrooms for him, placed where HE wants them, somehow constitutes "discrimination" or the violation of his legal "rights".

Torrey is a perfect example of how change occurs. His own moral compass, and the coaching of those differently abled, combined to make a very positive change. Trevor ROCKED that zipline! This sort of change tends to be viral, benefitting everyone along the way. It catches fire and motivates people to do more. Now contrast this to some internet complainer who asserts "rights" he doesnt actually have while yelling "clear discrimination" in the hope someone will believe him.

See the difference?

Ultimately you get to choose your own narrative.

You can complain, and be part of the problem. The inflammation, if you will.

Or you can solve the problem.

My problem coming out of of my first Burn in 2012 had to do with a perceived lack of a scary Zip-Line.

Problem solved. For now.

Sounds like "I'm not disabled and I can pee wherever I want so fuck you" privilege to me. I wouldn't mess with Lucky too much on this grey, her job in default world is to advocate for the rights of the disabled. I didn't read that other guys posts as whiny either, but as a sincere wish he could piss or poop closer to where he was. How about you spend two days in a wheelchair next burn, fully. No shortcuts. THEN you can piss and moan about others with immunity. Until then how about you keep your mobile, able, crappy mouth shut.

I am so proud of you Torrey smith. This was an awesome job of working to be inclusive. You are my hero this week.

No Burning man is not a privet club, the fact that Burning man sells tickets to all puts Burning man on the hot plate and ALL ADA guide lines and CFR reg's apply.

Yeah, it would seem to me that Burning Man constitutes a "public accommodation" under Title III of the ADA. It has a public airport, sells tickets to the general public, requires government policing, and is subject to public health regulations.

I mean, if it was a "private club," why would people's kitchens be subject to health inspectors?

I just got off the phone with Rat Lady, she tells me Trever was regaining movement and control of his body.

She will be contacting the rest of Mobility Camp with the sad news

I ran mobility camp before handing off to Rat Lady it seemed like ever year someone in camp wood ether died or ended there life.

Some camp members never even made it to the playa, it's hard to deal with i know it's sad and hard to comprehend what one will do.

I have lost so many friends and camp mates over the years it just makes me cry.

So sad.

Oh Sad day. I was there with my friend Matt waiting for the Zip line when y'all were rigging it all up and doing the test runs. Instead of being butt hurt about waiting we were honored to be a part of something amazing. Some amazing conversations were had with him later in the week on Friday and he was really positive and had some great things to say about life in general! One thing he said that resonates was that "there is no need to go about your day moping about the bad stuff; that instead to have faith that people (and angles) love you and are all around you."

RIP Mr. Mills
These angles are all fenced up!

Wow, this video made my day, and then to read the news that the subject of the video took his life. What a rollercoaster. And he even commented very positively on the video on YouTube that same day, apparently. Very sad. Goes to show how fleeting our emotions are. RIP Trevor.
