in many ways my best time at burning man was before i even got there, learning what not to expect (anything) and what to to plan for (everything) though of course being there is even better.

My best burn, by far, was the year many of our usual campmates got pregnant and/or married. Only six of us were able to go, and we made a great little camp WAY back on K Street. We had no placement and no early entry, but we also had no virgins, no drama queens, and no pressure to provide interactivity. We opened our little bar only when we felt like it, and drew smaller than usual crowds but met and retained FAR more friends than ever before or since. We had fewer interactions with the residents of BRC, but those we did have were deeper and more relaxed.

My husband gets upset that this was my favorite year, since I met him and married him at different burns, and neither of those were as nice as my perfect, simple little burn. Sometimes, going small is the best thing you can do.

Have only been to one so far, but still had to think through a lot of stunning moments. On the Wednesday after it started I tried LSD for the first time in my life. It was late in the afternoon and we decided to ride and see the Temple for the first time. We got there just as the dose was kicking in and just as the sun was going behind the mountains. I walked through the Temple and the rest is pretty much indescribable. I remember seeing the writing on the Temple and being profoundly moved, especially at one that said 'fuck heroin'. I remember laughing because a toddler in front of me bent down and said 'look mum, dust'. And i remember concluding moving through the Temple by sharing a group hug with my friends. It was probably not just my best time so far at Burning Man, but my best time so far in life. But, you know, that's what BRC does to you.

An existential crisis is a moment at which an individual questions the very foundations of their life: whether this life has any meaning, purpose, or value.

I ended up on top of a bus eating pie with Ygmir... you can't plan this shit.
that was a highlight!! a visit with you, Pal, is a good time!

IIRC, Littleflower made the pie?
That is a wonderful memory, eating LF pie in a pirate bar on the roof of a bus. With a cherry bomb on top. 8) 8) 8)

Sitting up above the city like that always makes me feel wistful, though, and almost sad, like I need to dive back in and stay submerged in it as long as it lasts.

Homesick now, for sure.

Finding a man down in the deep playa and getting medical to them, they survived. Helping out at the first mobility camp for disabled burners. Being part of an art car (bus), guiding them on foot and pulling people away from their wheels who decided to challenge life plus pole dancing on the hood of the bus. Audience to a playa wedding and bringing flourless chocolate to the reception. Cooking french toast for our camp. Meeting people from other countries. Being interviewed for a CBC radio documentary. Finding a very young lost gay girl, talking to her and sending her on to her adventures happier. Dancing at el Circo burn night witching hour. Meeting and dining with Lance Camp. Bringing friends for the first time and seeing them find their place, expand and grow. People responding to my interactive experience/costume/persona. Cooking for 125 people. Sending a memorial portrait of burner Berk to be burned. Driving a friend out for a health problem and meeting Pearl. Spending time with dear friends the Tuna Guys(Girls). Knowing when I was in electrolyte depletion and getting help at medial. Meeting a crazy ex-special forces gentleman on an art car and chatting. Meeting an artist who made a large kaleidoscope and dissuading her friends from using gasoline to start a charcoal grill. Costumes. So many art installations. Walking out to the rave camp. Finding The Duck. Reno buffets. Cedarville and Summer Lake hot springs outbound. That's what I can think of now.

Ha, Ha. All of it. First time 2015. Mostly a blur of hyper stimulation on every level. But this. Arrived mid afternoon wide eyed and in the center of a raging white out. Yea and no worries. That's what it's about, the expected unexpected. Hung out and camp for a bit, meeting new friends and trying to relax into my I'm-A-Virgin experience. My amazing multi-burn daughter (who invited me) shares that we should nap around 8:30pm, we're getting up at 3am to hit the Playa, dance and drink in some sunrise. Sounds good. I like sleep, dancing and the sun, so no problem. I'm excited but sleep comes easy. We wake, step out into the chill and a massively expansive star filled sky. We rally with half a dozen new friends and camp mates. All grinning widely. Off we go on our blinking bikes. I've never seen anything like it. Ever in my 58 years. People everywhere, coming, going, blinking, laughing, smiling...all heading somewhere and everywhere. New York city rush hour kinda activity, only more spectacular by a factor of 50. I'm in visual shock, grinning 360, my head on a swivel as we pedal out into deep playa. Lauren says we're looking for the Myan Warrior. I have no idea what that means. We all pedal, I gawk. Not creep gawk. More like awestruck gawk. I literally feel the hum, buzz and energy strum penetrating my clothes, washing through my skin and pouring gently into body. Or maybe it was pouring into my soul? In any event. Get this. I'm not even altered, I'm natural (At this point anyway;-). Sound waves lure our little caravan of smiles towards more light and more sound. OMG, we roll up to sea of twinkling bikes, beautiful people swaying, jumping, dancing, raving, hugging, laughter and joy. My first playa nighttime is seared into my memory for lifetimes to come. Then there was the transition from darkest night purple confettied with stars, gray orange, hues of blue and the then, the Sun rose. Well, I was tired now, but it was on. I don't think I slept more than an two hours a day for the new three days. I simply couldn't fall asleep. No matter how hard I tried (maybe trying was the problem), the collective vibrations and omnipresent stimulations were too strong. I've been practicing my meditations to help me get into the sleep groove this year. We'll see how that works out. Can't wait. Hope to meet you.
