Artemis wrote:[vent]I had people criticize me on a couple of occasions for not dressing "burny enough". What can I say? Light colored linen and silks feel good in the heat of the desert. Fishnets and fairy wings, not so much.

And yes, my pink cowboy hat does look quite touristy. I was born in Texas and it was a gift from my family from a true cowboy hat maker in Texas. Wasn't purchased for Burning Man.

I found it quite funny to find myself once again finding that people "rebelling" against standards of society create their own standards. [/vent]
I'll say it again.
Khakis and wingtips.
There's your costume.

i'm a jaded as the next crotchety old burner but i also realize that with time, and practice, and enough burns, they'll get it too...

everybody's got to learn sometime...

cut them some slack, give some sly guidance, and you'd be surprised what newbs can do.

One of my favorite questions to ask newbies this year: "So, what're ya gonna bring to next year's Burning Man?" Loved the answers...hearing their ideas for art, performance, gifts, costumes, bikes, cars...everyone was so inspired...I look forward to seeing next years Sophomore Class final exams!

Ahhh I figured this would get blown out of proportion.

See the thing is, I spent alot of time this year on the playa meeting really legit, down to earth people that were also virgins. I guess I shouldnt generalize but Im going to anyways. See for each FYT I came across this year, had no compelling reason to be there other than party which is totally fine but Im there for another reason, that reason being that burning man did change my meager existence and gave me some hope that there was still credible and trustworthy people in the world. People that owned up the their actions and could jump at the chance of say helping me off load 55 gallon water containers just to help someone out. I did see that this year, but I also saw how generic and "cheap" its getting as well.

So fuck the FYT's! =)

Maybe Burning Man can help change these undesirables, maybe they can learn something after dealing with the pressures.

Be the change you wish to see and shaddap ;)

If they wont budge, then they probably wont be back next year. Easy as that....really.

Well kinda I guess ;)

I mean, the only way to really help this matter is to KEEP INSPIRING.

I wonder where you were and why you met so many partiers. I met tons of virgins who were there for the art, for an adventure, for personal growth...I met a few major partiers, but they were the exception.
