As a first time burner and old time fest goer, I was worried that BM would not meet my musical needs. I did go on a Jam Band diet, I put my CDs under my car seat and left them there for the week. I wanted what BM had to offer. Im not much into the cheesy techno crap, but open minded to everything.
I was pleasantly surprised. I heard a mix of everything. Bad techno, nice psy trance, good electronica, totally outdated crap, lots of 80s good and bad, I sat down and enjoyed a healthy dose of Grateful Dead on the esplanade, heard some nice bluegrass, and ventured out to find live music. I found some great shit. 3 sets of Michael Franti and friends acoustic (OMG i was delighted) Hamsa Lila all night aprty at the Fringe, The Mermen at center camp after the burn, Alma Melodiosa, and an incredible psychedelic funked out superjam at Otter Oasis all night sunday. Lets just say I smell good music....hahahaa...found it!
Tho the Herbie hancock tune that was played for 3 hours straight on 7:30 and Catharisis was the poop of the week. 3 hours of the same song! I JUST LAUGHED>.....
Next year i hope I can get freindly with someone with a big sound system and play DJ for a day. I think that will be my gift given and received of BM 2006. It will be unique, euphoric, and fresh!!!!
I wrote a setlist of teh music I heard the first part of teh week. I'll post it when I find it. Its funny and amusing!
great music this year
Was anyone out at the apocolypse garden friday night? Space cowboys (I believe) took it over and it was one of the most bitchin dance spots ever. All the art cars circling were plugged in, so the sound was great and the atmosphere was on fire, literally. Couldn't get better atmosphere for dancin. The fire pendulums were going off too which added to the whole thing. Then, the CHUCK WAGON (art car) pulled up and started deep frying french fry's. I was so excited, but my batch was covered in salt, like the fries were the topping and the salt was the dish type of covered, I almost cried.
I spent burn night at green gorilla. They were pretty tight.
Also, I was camped right next to probably the only afro-american theme camp ever on the playa. heard a lot of R&B. My only problem is hearing songs I hear all the time in the default world.
There was also an art car that I saw wed. night by the mouse trap that was a sort of fire-percussion thing. 2 drummers played wire strings (?), and those strings fired off small propane cannons. So the sound you were hearing was the cannons firing, but with a percussive beat. Then the fire tuba showed up and that guy rocks.

Michael Franti?
Did anyone catch Michael Franti of Spearhead playing at Otter Camp? He was amazing as usual, played songs from his venture to Iraq. It would be nice to see more performers fly in and drop some goods on BRC...
Otherwise, enjoyed all that was offered

When in doubt, just smile, or perhaps mumble a bit, too...
