Hey...I like DJ's...I love the oontz oontz thumpa thumpa to sleep to...but there are many instances, in this acoustic life, when you don't want Jungle goin' at xxxdecibels, 50 ft from your _______. Seems a community could make space for both, with cooperation...

I can usually sleep through the thumpa thumpa, I find it soothing ,no really! But I do remember going to this weekend long rave called 'megabuzz' and the problem was we put our tent up in the intersection of 3 different sound systems so had jungle, hardcore and house all playing at the same time constantly. All with completely discordant beats. Burning man has never been as bad as that!

If you camp out far enough, is it not pretty quiet?

I'm glad you asked that question! Why, yes! Yes, it is quieter on the outside roads, which is precisely why I camp on the outer road every year. It seems to me that the NIMBYs represented here want to live downtown for the visual stimulation but don't want to deal with the audio consequences. It IS a longer commute to the esplanade, that's for sure. I think that's the problem for most of these geezers.

I camped next to hushville and the AlternativeEnergyZone last year. It was blessedly quiet, for the most part. One night someone left his stereo on; instead of vandalizing it I just turned the speakers around to face away from my camp and towards his camp. I'm sure someone over there appreciated that.

I know I may be beating a dead horse here, and maybe it's just the fact that I do my best to *MAKE SURE* not only my sound system isn't directed toward any part of the main city, but also that we register early to get placed in the LSSA area where these loud sounds are truthfully the only place they are allowed, *BUT* I feel that no one should be allowed to disturb their neighbobrs with unwanted beats unless they are in that same boat. These different sections of the city are there for a reason. Myself and Norm know, that if we don't get placed in the Large Scale Sound Art area of the city, we aren't even bringing our sound system.

ok Bx1, pat yourself on the back, we are all proud of you too for doing it the right way also.

The point that is trying to be made here is that too many "DJs", are out there now, playing thier music in places where it is unwelcome.

We are not sweeping you under the rug, but many "DJs' out there belong in a dustpan....hold on..... bad metaphor.....TRASHCAN !!!

(I am with Fishy on this one, it really is pathetic when no one is dancing to thier spins at 4:00 A.M., in the middle of the camping areas)

Where is Tecnoviking when we need him ?????

Thanks Dick, I can always count on you for living up to your name.

BTW: We already established all this, and has already been said that no one enforces it so whats the point? You can make a rule, but whos going to follow it if it doesn't fit in with their ideals and no one is trying to stop them? Enforcing "the rule" and just ignoring it or the only two solutions. Other then that, it's just pointless complaining. Now we can move on?

awww... now ya went off and gave me a Stiffy.

Rangers will come and talk to you if someone files a complaint about your noise, they just have to file it in the appropriate order.

Complaining to a Ranger that is just walking by your camp is not how it's done....they may or may not give a shit.

Going to the Ranger outpost in your particuliar sector and filing a formal complaint about inappropriate music going on
will surely follow with a pair of them coming by to follow up on the complaint.

Wires have been cut in the past after the violator(s) chose to ignore the Rangers suggestions to turn it down or off.

I have had them following up about a sound complaint in my own camp, so I speak with experience on this.

I also usually speak with the inappropriate amount of snark, so don't think I am just harping,
because I hate the music that harps make also.

and seriously, pat yourself on the back, because you are a better burner than those that the focus of this posting is about.

and we love you all to hell for it too.

Now would someone please bring on the Technoviking ???

I agree, and thanks for the 'atta-boy for doing it right. Last burn, I ended up with a case full of CDs handed out to me by various DJs on the playa. I still got them coasters layin' around somewhere!

I suppose a lot of younger kid DJ's are pretty caught up in themselves and forget that the whole purpose of being a DJ is the play for the crowd and not just for themselves. That ALSO means being courteous to those who are trying to enjoy something else entirely.

I frequently attend a small private party here in VA where I sometimes DJ. There are 3 rooms with different music styles usually and they must coexist so everyone can enjoy the experience. I think what were are looking for is peaceful coexistence with consideration for neighbors and those with different tastes. Seems simple enough but add in significant levels of intoxication and maybe (definitely) it gets a lot harder.

All DJ's are not vermin, but all people that play music are not DJ's...

Well, it's certainly been interesting.

It was a joke, people. To be sure a sideways, straight-faced joke, but a joke nonetheless.

I didn't?

i had a vision, no a dream, no, no, a bad ether hallucination....or was it Real?

it was John Kisha, volunteering as a greeter this year.

his nick-name was "Spanky"

but instead of slapping virgin butts he was gifting "welcome" facials.
