I still like seeing his shows, although last year I got a little bored of them b/c he was at damn near every festival I went to.junglesmacks wrote:I still find it so ironic that for as much worship goes on about Bassnectar.. I thought he played the most god awful, irritating music that I'd ever heard in my life. I'd rather listen to a dentists drill than that drivel. Just saying.
I think the best thing about Bassnectar is that he's really popular in the hippie/jam scene right now. For YEARS jam festies had the worst EDM imaginable. Now, partly b/c of him, they're getting into much better stuff.
One thing did strike me as a bit odd though. Bassnectar played 2 other festivals during the week on the burn. Isn't that not in the (air quote) "spirit of Burning Man" to just fly in, play your gig, and then leave to go off and make $$ somewhere?
It makes me wonder how many other "big name" DJs do the same thing.

So, would it be more in the spirit of burningman if he didn't come to the festival, and just made money elsewhere?neon tetra wrote:One thing did strike me as a bit odd though. I meant that more as a joke, but I guess I do have a small fear that it will become(or is already becoming) more like the Miami Winter Music Conference.
With "famous" DJs being the main focus, many of them just flying in for a night or 2, etc.
I did love the Tower of Babel, and I truly hope the rumor I heard about this being the last year of Root Society isn't true.

Then I'm sorry I snarked at ya. It gets very hard to tell who's got his head hopelessly up his ass at times.neon tetra wrote:I meant that more as a joke,

Along the same lines, I've always wondered... the "big name" dj's that come to BM, whether it just the night like bassnectar, or the whole week like I'm sure many others do... Do they also have to buy a ticket? It would seem they would, as many people volunteer days of their time still don't, but it's always been something I've wondered.neon tetra wrote:junglesmacks wrote:It makes me wonder how many other "big name" DJs do the same thing.
