Well, there are those hefty donations to the far right. The scary, not at all inclusive far right.Fire_Moose wrote:Why no Coors? that's not very Radically inclusive of yer camp.

While I understand why some camps have dues, that doesn't keep it from making me rage. 2010 was my first year, and we did everything for ourselves. And sure, it would've been cool to stay at one of the many awesome theme camps, be a little closer to the action, etc... After looking at the prices some of the camps were asking, I wasn't having it.
There was a pretty good article about camp dues in the BRC Weekly that sums up my feelings about camp dues...
But on that note, I understand that the further you live from the playa, the harder it is to get out there with all of your own stuff. Rather than trying to find the "typical" camp dues, I'd try to tabulate the price of getting all of your own stuff to the playa, and then shoot for anything under that. You'd be less in the red than otherwise, right?

It reminds me of when I worked with Greenpeace in the 80's; we decided to have a beer night & all piled into the car. We quickly realized we couldn't come to a consensus on what to drink- everyone was boycotting something different.theCryptofishist wrote:Poor fishy, always seeing the political...
Coors due to their right wing politics, Japanese beers due to whaling, something else because of anti-union, I can't even remember what all the reason were. 15 people, all boycotting something (I think I was boycotting Coors at the time)
We all ended up buying our own beers....

Damn.. I'll take a CCL (A Cold Coors Light as they are affectionately known 'round these parts..) over almost anything when it comes to raw hydration and that clean crisp taste of watered down beer chugging down the gullet.zorro sings wrote:We hate waste and historically they have been notorious floaters at the end of the night in our coolers.Fire_Moose wrote:Why no Coors?

Hear Hear! I must confess, when I want to save money and it's on sale, sometimes my pocketbook overrides my politics... But speaking as someone who wholly supports a libertarian (little l, not fake big L) take on social crime policy, I hate knowing that I'm helping fund the drug war propaganda machine when I buy my beer. They don't just support "right" ie conservative positions, they support Republican politics, ie regressive reactionary anti-freedom positions. I know this is too much politics for a lot of folks, feel free to snicker at me and move along. I'm secure in my positions and have no fear in talking about them rationally.neon tetra wrote:I just don't get why people drink Coors.
Aside from the fact that they're one of the biggest polluters in the state of Colorado, and all of the hate groups they've been involved with, and the family's personal politics....
it's just not a good beer.

JStep, I'm worried about your smoking habit...have you looked in the mirror recently? I mean, uh, sumthin' MIGHT be going on...how many packs a day man? I hope it isn't serious. Let me know if I can help, ok?
I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!
Heh. That pic is from the Omaha Zombie Walk 2, 2009. I quit (again) 3/1/2010. I still like the occasional (and occasionally too often) cigar, but I don't do the pack a day thing or smoke every day any more. My hedonist tendencies continue to be at war with my higher reasoning.moonrise wrote:Yea, Coors sucks, no 'bout a doubt it.JStep wrote:Hear Hear! Not to derail a perfectly good beer rant...
As a fairly small but ambitious camp, we have asked our members for a pretty large donation in the past... generally 250 - 300 bucks each. It's not so much a fee as it is a contribution to the operating expenses of the camp. The first year we did the lounge, the spreadsheet was not pretty with all of the shit we had to rent or buy. Most of that came out of mine and another guy's pockets, but we asked our members to help out as well. Since that year (1997) we have been slowly lowering the cost, since we own the bulk of the stuff now. We try to create something new each year so that takes money too. We took off this year, but for 2011, our "dues" will likely be about 100 - 125 bucks, to cover the rental truck, fuel, and miscellaneous supplies. For that, our members get a lot of shade, water, a kitchen, a shower and evap, lighting, viewing tower and a ton of other stuff, but not food or drink other than our daily ice tea and lemonade. Usually too many different diet needs to make a communal meal anything but a nightmare. With 25 or fewer members and several of those earning their way thru tasks or other commitments, it should give us enough cushion that no one person (me) is bearing the weight of all of the expenses. We do expect that our members be an active part of the camp, either with setup, teardown or both as well as running the lounge when we're open, which is most of the time.

A plan is what you vary from.
Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!

I hear there's a camp where you can pay $10,000 and you get to hangout with Simon for an hour. Sweet deal.
