For the second year in a row, Sensei's camp of the year award goes to... THE GLOM! Yes, the GLOM wins again! Their outstanding bar was THE watering hole for thousands, the home of the Burning Band, and they were the hosts for Thursday's Little Black Dress party. This place kicked butt (ask Mayor Joey).

Billion Bunny VOyage to Lepus Landia

Post by spider_rabbit » Mon Sep 20, 2004 8:26 am

I have to vote for the Billion Bunny camp. Jewelz game, Affinity's transfers and the Billion Bunny March to the Cafe and to the Man on Thursday. It was surreal out there in the dust doing the bunny hop!!

Long live the bunnies!

My favorite camp was my own The Liver's End. By the way Robbi, The Liver's End are not a bunch of Indianans. We are all from Reno. The Indiana Kids (as they are affectionately known) are frequent visitors who make themselves at home in our camp. We performed their committment ceremony last year and the revowing ceremony this year. In my opinion, we are the friendliest, most generous and best place to be on the playa.

I also liked Spikes. And the Pickletinis were to die for!

I have to say Spike's made my Burning Man as well. The music was amazing. And I must say, it was great to find a no techno zone so close to the Esplanade.

But even better, the people there were just great fun to talk to (both patrons and the people behind the bar). Oh, and getting to dance on stage a lot. That was fun as well.
And in time we will all burn and become a new.

Oh, and late me add that the two instaces of violence that I saw at Burning Man also get my notice.

The wrestling at Temple of Atonement was amazing as well as the battles at Thunderdome.
And in time we will all burn and become a new.

I guess I have to nominate my own camp, Fandango, since they were nice enough to take care of us. A welcome break from all the other thoompa camps but being newbies we hardly spent any time there. From all the stories I’ve been hearing about the Slow Burn Lounge it sounds like we missed some fine moments.

My favorite moment was Thursday night when my gf and I were rollin really hard and feeling a little overwhelmed by all the sights and sounds (and smells too, gawd I hate patchouli). We ventured off the Esplanade to find a jots and maybe a low key chill dome to recollect our senses. We happened upon The Heavenly Swing, a covered dome with the most comfortable swing suspended by cables from the roof. The 2 gentlemen we talked to were absolutely awesome people, very accommodating and welcoming. We shed our camelbaks, sat/laid on the comfy pillows and listened to some very soothing music. This is exactly what we needed at the time. It was almost as if we had wished that camp into existence. As we were leaving one gentleman asked to see my altoid tin ash tray. I handed it to him and he proceeded to empty it into his jacket pocket and handed it back with a smile and a heartfelt "Thank You". Wow!

I dig the small stuff like that. It really burned itself into my memory and I hope I see them again next year.

My favorite camp..

Well, I tell ya it ain't fucking Lush.

Just got back from the playa today after driving up to help with the clean up.

The sheer voliume of shit the camp left is disgusting.

Fucking DISGUSTING.

I hope some of the organizers are reading this. Given the inordinate amount of attention having to be focused on just this one camp absolutely taxes the available folks who are staying long after the event to clean up so that a permit might be issued next year.

The music might have been good, the crowd pretty engaging, the layout grand but the equation doesn't balance out as far as what the real cost to to the event is is terms of having to clean the amount of shit that they left.

A total fucking shame.

By far, my favorite camp(aside from the black rock burner hostel) was HOOKAHDOME...right on the esplanade, awesome people running it, cool ass art car (that i fell off...got me a nice scar from that), pillows and lush carpets on the floor, fine tobacco in the hookahs, and if u sat around for long enough someone was bound to smoke you up...good music, beautiful people dancin...shit what else could u want?

Hey, thanks for going back to pick up stuff. I mean really thanks!

So ... tell us more. Was there a bunch of any one particular kind of thing there at Lush, a mishmash of things? I know I eyed all those palm fronds with suspicion but figured they would burn them.

The quick down and dirty:

NOTE: Everyone's MOOP collection is different so what i got a lot of someone else may have not seen a bit of. However, what I remember most of us picking up repeatedly were the following:

cigarette butts. Hundreds, and hundreds of carelessly tossed cig butts.

glowstick and/or blinky remnants (casings, tubes like the ones you wear as bracelets/necklaces) and LOTS of those small, flat batteries that poere the LEDs

hardware (nails/bolts/screws/washers, etc.)

pennies. Coins actually. Lots of coins.

zip ties (plastic cable tying strips)

pistachio nut shells. Nope, (I'm not joking)

feathers/sequins/plastic decorations/costume jewelry remnants

paper and some glass.

nasty conglomerations of tissue and what obviously was gray water. None of us wanted to think that we were occasionally scraping a glob of semi-gelatinous, mucky, bio-funk that some camps tossed thinking that the soggy tissue would miraculously evaporate without a trace.

Yeah, right.

Keep in mind that this represents the small stuff. By the time I arrived most highly visible stuff the size of a beer can or larger hass pretty much been picked, raked, scraped by the kick-ass DPW folks and volunteers.

Well...since i'm Bitterman I guess I can't like anything in the present. I only like my golden memories of things in the past. Stuff now-a-days CAN'T EVEN COMPARE to the dusty playa yester-years that I remember. (get it? that's why i'm bitter):

I loved those ShortFuse people! They were the nicest bunch of folks on the playa. Everybody thought so. They had a Hotel Room, a trampoline, and a full sized leatherette lounge booth (with table) that seated 6 comfortably! They always had an ice cold keg of Playa Beer on tap for all those thirsty peeple who had their own cups. They had a "we love our neighbors" dance and party every year on Thursday. They hugged each other and they hugged everyone who passed by. (AND they covered with a blanket all those who passed out) What a swell bunch of kids. I miss those bastards.

Love,

Bitterman

Has anyone mentioned the hooka dome yet? Excellent chill space, the folks were super nice AND smart enough to not let folks smoke dope in there (which would probably have ruined it for all of us by getting the place shut down)

I'm gonna go along with the line of "my camp was best for me" theme.

I loved my camp. I love all the fantastic people who created from nothingness...SENSORIA! By day our lovely Four foot by Eight foot MURALS of robots, godheads, and weirdos WoWed you. By night our VIDEO FEEDBACK WALL and SONIC-SOUND-DISRUPTION-SCAPE melted you into tiny piles of jelly. Maybe you met our ROBOT whilst strollin' down the Esplenade one evening?

MY SPECIAL THANKS TO THE FELLA WHO WAS TAKING PHOTOS OF ESTABLISHED CAMPS ON SUNDAY NIGHT BEFORE THE CITY OPENED.
I was so wowed by your kind gesture and fantasic shot of our camp that I didn't get your name. Your image captured the result of our hard work before the windy melt down of Monday which reduced our camp to piles of lumber. Thank you to D6 and Sullywan for all yer hard, windy, white out 10 hour work day on the windy melt down of Wednesday. We rebuilt, but it wasn't as grand as Saturday and Sunday.

Love to Chill. Love It.

The Winking Lotus was the clear winner for me for two reasons: 1.) I always met the coolest people in there, including the creeping boy-creature I call The Poet, and 2.) Neverending tea + pillows + Buddha-lounge atmosphere. Of course that could be every other camp there...

The Hammock Dome was the perfect daytime chillin place: a dozen+ hammocks under a huge huge parachute. I spent the most amazing Sunday lounging around with The Poet here. A sweet artist/nymph drew our blissful picture in pen & gifted it to us. The karaoke bar next door was a nice ambient touch as well...

Nude camp?

Post by canwecum » Sun Feb 06, 2005 8:02 pm

My wife and I are nudist and this will be our first time going to BM, and we were wondering how we could find a camp or area that was primarily nude.

Umm...would you really describe that as an "innuendo?" Spelling it correctly would have been innuendo. Subtlety is something of a prerequisite. The three-letter spelling exists for people who lack the capacity to detect innuendo.

I have to say I favor the HeeBeeGeeBee Healers, and not just because I camp with them! They have and sweet chill / healing space and are full of love!

Automatic Subconcious also rocks my world! Hooray for shelter from the dust storms and a bird's eye view of the city at night! I love you guys!

I also met some cool people at the Dusty Kitty Lounge. A great place for a Dusty Pony to hang out for a while :)

You know what sucks? being NEXT to the Heebeegeebee camp. Next year we're going to have a sign that says "Heebeegeebees are over there" with a big red arrow.
