My Dr. has recommended I keep the wound covered with an antibiotic cream and sterile pads. I'm not sure my wounds will heal before the burn. Although they have improved, I still have many layers of skin to regrow... I'm worried about the alkaline dust there, even if my wound is covered with a sterile pad and secured with medical tape. Anybody have any experience with how to keep wounds clean? My Dr has also recommended that I not get my burn wet... Not sure what to do because I've never had open wounds on the playa before. THANKS!
Good thread here about open wounds: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=66140

Though with second degree burns, they're not really open wounds. By the time the event rolls around, you'll more likely be more concerned about scar mitigation and comfort than infection.

I went to the playa two days after having 16 sub-dermal catheters removed from my breast. Had to keep them clean, dry, and covered. No problem. I just had to be diligent about cleaning and care, and covering up.

Thanks guys to all who answered my question! I'm bringing a pack of gloves so I can be sure my hands are sterile when I change the dressing. Gel pads sound interesting. I might have to try those.

My knee is starting to give out. I've been biking 50 miles a week for over a year and I'm young (mid 20's) so this scares me. Can't get in to the doctor before BRC.

Probably gonna have to re-think my plans.
