commercial-free

Post by the fire elf » Sat Feb 04, 2006 5:57 pm

chromatest wrote:The current torrent download has commercials in it. I plan to edit the file so that it won't have those anymore. That will make the file size a bit smaller. Of course, I've never really done anything like this, so I'm going to fake it and hopefully I can get it done.

I then plan on creating a new torrent on a public tracker (that's a good thing) for the new edited commercial-free version.

So is anyone with the most retarded anti-BMorg campaign ever going to grace us with a capsule review of the show?

I haven't seen it -- doesn't come w/ basic dish service -- and a 2-Gig illegal d/l just seems ten times as retarded as a Church Lady Burner protest of a reality TV show.

However, I'm always interested in how the Church Lady Burners want us to think.

I don't really understand what you're saying.. WHAT?

anyhow.. this guy goes to Burningman with some cameras. He does some stuff. He talks to some people. He breathes some fire and looks at some naked people. He parties and does his job. Oh, and he interviews Larry Harvey who talks about the non-commercial aspects of the event... and then they cut for a 4 minute commercial break.

That's a great new ab-flex machine they got there... Hopefully everybody will buy one so next year, we can all walk around and show off our hot abs.

Don't worry its just Bob being Bob. But I believe he is commenting on the fact for all the talking that chi guy and dabomb, and other did before, they have been silent since the air time. Maybe the show was not as horrible as they thought or maybe they are mad they got mention on the show and became part of the hollywood machine.

I was wondering if Chai and Co. would weigh in on what they thought of the finished product. I'm surprised they haven't yet.

We never claimed to be the arbiters of taste. Our dissent with the Discovery Channel was based on the facts surrounding the filming of the event, the undisclosed "site fees" paid to the organization, the behavior of the DTC crew on the playa, and the “commodification” of the experience to sell products on tv.

If the actual content was brilliant or complete bullocks was irrelevant to us. However, since many people have asked for a review, we will probably give one, we just wanted to let everyone else weigh in on it first.

Last week we delivered the petitions to Andie Grace wearing tutus as requested (only to find out the entire office wearing them in solidarity with us, including Actiongrl!) We had a nice interview with Andie Grace and then later sat down with Larry Harvey, Maid Marian and Danger Ranger for an in depth discussion about Burning Man, the media and a bunch of other questions we were dying to ask.

We'll be uploading all the audio to a website soon for everyone to listen to.

Hey Bob, send me your snail mail address in a pm and I'll mail you a VHS copy of the show. We'd like to know what you think as well.

Chai -- Sorry, not really interested. Burning Man videos make me itch in all the wrong places, and Reality TV jumped the shark for me when I started shoving photographers at the '96 event. More interested in first-hand opinions than those colored by the hype of a bogus "grassroots" movement.

Plus I'm sore you've paid no attention at all to my long-standing offer to pay Larry a ten buck fee to offer my 350 Foot Black Dick project to the LLC. Isn't that begging to be a target of your anti-corruption campaign, if, say, I'd made a side deal with BET?

I like pix of friends, taken by friends -- mostly well before or after the event, when the glowsticks and dayglo fake fur don't throw off the color balance.

Travel show, whatever -- that's what the dude was shooting in my face in '97 who I almost punched out -- made a huge deal about the sacrifices he made bringing out all his own gear into a dusty hell, at the same time name-dropping all the Very Important People he knew in the org. Been running into the same kind of fuckwads every year I've been to the desert, but I guess I still pity the fool who runs into Reality TV only once, with his or her pants down.

Gotta go, Bleak House is back on.

Well, not that my opinion matters since no one here knows me, but I saw it, enjoyed it because it was all shot on the playa (and I'm powerless over my playa addiction), thought it was interesting, peppered in tv bullshit, and like the burning man experience itself, an interesting reflection on the narrator.

Dang-

I've yet to see the final product, as my cable does not carry the channel.

I do well remember my interview, but alas, as noted, have not seen it yet. I am anxious to see how Miniman turned out too.

Interesting discussion... must reserve judgement until later.

New Version comming soon!

Post by chromatest » Mon Feb 06, 2006 9:11 am

I have edited out every second of commercials in the program. I have also compressed all 15 minutes of those commercials down into about 3 minutes or so. I have created a picture-in-picture effect and inserted all of those commercials into the interview with Larry Harvey, where he is telling the host that burningman is cool because they took the commercialism out of it.

I know.. I know.... but I couldn't resist.

I'm encoding it right now. Hopefully if I don't have any glitches, it will be done when I get home. It should be about the size of a CD (650 megs?). If it's watchable, I'll .torrent the file tonight.

I thought Miniman-and you-turned out great. They got Miniman shouting at the Man, "WHY WON'T YOU TALK TO ME?!" And a nice rant that I think was you, about how when we all take Burningman home with us, it makes the world a better place.

Mini-man was one of the highlights of the entire show. I was hoping they would show The Man "acknowledging" Mini-man but alas it was not to be or it got edited out.

"Only In America" new .torrent file

Post by chromatest » Mon Feb 06, 2006 4:34 pm

I think that should work.

If not. Try http://www.chromatest.net/OnlyInAmerica ... pg.torrent

You use this small file to download the full mpg (which is now 840 megs) using a BitTorrent Client.

Azureus is my favorite. It's spyware free, open source, free, and runs on almost every platform.

try getting that baby in to quick time and making it a mp4 or h.264 compression... i got the 2gb file down to 350mb in mp4... i believe i can get your 650mb down to 75mb - 150mb max...

quicktime pro will do it if you export it. and you can also use psp or ipod encoding soft ware to get it smaller... i compress 11gb dvds to a few hundred megs for my ipod and my psp.

hope this helps :D 8) :P

Kernul - You looked fantastic !

I think Chai and his friends should speak instead of using avoidance...

where's your OPINION? Is this the END or what?!
You mean to say we have to watch YOUR reality TV show to see what YOU think? Hmmmmm.....

Maybe this IS the end.

Well, I refuse to use quicktime, wmv, or any of those proprietary formats. Sure, you still need a license for mpg, and the only reason I did mpeg1 is because I couldn't figure out how to use the xvid software.

So it's otherwise peachy to obtain & distribute copies of someone else's video work via someone else's BBS?

Good work! That's the kind of pretzel logic I expect at Burning Man these days.

im not quite certian why you dont want to use proprietory formats. but to each his own i guess... if by xvid software you mean divx/avi get divx 6 i might help out with registration if you PM me. ANYWAY... you can make it in to an avi file format its not that great on compression in comparison with .mp4 and h.264 but its good nonetheless... PM me any time and ill help any way i can...

P.S. what movie editing software did you use? and what OS are you using?

glad to help

what all the flap is about

Post by ravenluv » Mon Feb 06, 2006 7:39 pm

i weighed in on the discovery debate to little effect. everything proceeded as predicted.

didn't get to see the show. way too caught up these days in fate-driven hope and fear explorations, when not swept away by work. forgot about it completely.

but thanks to y'all, i now know that i was where i thought i was - the place i'd mentioned before. i wore military garb that night for the first time ever at bm, then stumbled upon mini-man from a distance and marveled at the dream that presaged the sighting by eight months. i chased him down, but only because i was already heading in that direction. mini-man led me to the kernul where a nearby bell sound spoke of mini-man's birth.

memories fade, realities change, but even so, i remember thinking discovery missed something in that moment that i got. or maybe it was the other way around. either way, i was taping too. i'd share it in unedited fashion if anyone was sufficiently motivated to urge me in that direction. nonetheless, it will never be the same as watching it through the high-priced electric eyes of professionals. nor will it ever be broadcast to millions of unsuspecting souls. it's not very thrilling, in light of all that.

has anyone suggested that the host was merely egging the man on? or even the other way around?
