GLOW FUR COAT
I was curious from those who saw the "GLow Fur" coat I was wearing on the playa, and what your thoughts were? I debuted for the first time at BM06. It was a new application I created and many burners wanted one... Does anyone have a good photo?

pix please.
I have yet another story that fits in the illuminated costume theme.
Late on Friday night, as the sun was starting to lighten the sky, I came across a dude working on trying to fix his el skirt which was shutting off. I tried to help him, was something with the duct taped connection between battery pack and rest of show. He was intermittently getting it lit. We got it working but it went out again. I looked to the brightening sky and told him that Mama Sun was about to outshine him anyway, time to give up the ghost of el for the night. But he kept struggling with it. I chuckled and said, "look here she comes, the el will be irrelevant shortly. look at how beautiful and bright she is. we'll be running for cover shortly."
He kept his nose down in his skirt, ignoring the sky, determined. ah art! I rode back to my camp to warm by the fire, before even that was made irrelevant by Big Fire. ha. ha. here she comes.

Hmmm, this certainly looks like a clever way to advertise to me. The reason I say this is because I've seen the blatent advertisement on Tribe.
I can understand being proud of your sewing skills and wanting to show it off shagalicious, but your post links directly to your website where you are trying to sell these coats.
I think you are walking a fine line of violating the TOS.

well yeah Shag...we're all talking the same thing here...we burners arnt all the rich and fancy kind! And have money falling out of their pockets.
We thought about disecting your works but thought who the hell has 750.00 for a friggin jacket.
I cant beleive you would charge your fellow burners SOOO much.
Hell the floor length Jackets I made were in the 75-100.00 range in materials...and one was just gifted to a fellow camper.
I understand that your trying to start a bizz...but man, play up default world, not your fellow burners, and for those out there who dont have a knack for making cool shit like these, cut them a finacial break, giv' them a huge discount so they can be pretty like you!
One of my biggest problems with making stuff for people is not charging them my time...ok correction, Its not my biggest problems..in hindsight...I suppose its my biggest GIFT! I love these people, and if Im finacially able I just make it and gift it!

Pmom,
Curious viewpoints you suggest. You seem to think I am trying to take advantage of people for offering a replica of an art they like and that they want, and the costs are prohibitive relative to your perception? Yet in the same breath you are trying to figure out a way to acquire one for the mere purpose of "dissecting" it. the only reason someone would want to dissect and reverse- engineer it , would be for their own financial gain... not exactly burningmanish. I might expect that from 3rd world countries who routinely do this kinda thing. If one of "your biggest problems” is not charging for your time' then I might suggest you value your time and still provide a gift. Everyone wins that way.

For your edification, Pinemom spent an unbelieveable amount of time making kilts as GIFTS for her fellow campmates - some of whom she had never even met before. To my knowledge, she has never accepted any kind of renumeration. Shame on you.shagalicious wrote:Pmom,

Your statement about profit from reverse engineering is a reflection of yourself and NOT the person to whom you directed this. You have made the fatal mistake of attacking someone well known to many of us e-playans as an incredibly generous individual with the best possible motives. In addition, your opinion of what may or may not be "burningmanish" is diminished by your blatant advertisement wrapped in a "look at me, aren't I pretty" disquise.
I wish you well in your quest for people to pay $750 for a lighted faux fur coat. I hope you become somewhat kinder with those that express the opinion that it is way overpriced - because you may hear a lot of that.
So where's the discount for burners? since your blatantly advertising here and all over Tribe, and are completely unwilling to assist any burner into DIY
(the secret is EL wire sewn under white fake fur)
where's the burner discount where you sell for cost +shipping?
step up and show that burneresk values. or fuck off already.

Hmmm and where do you get your coats? You have the same coat as these people do.the only reason someone would want to dissect and reverse- engineer it , would be for their own financial gain... not exactly burningmanish. vitadigest find them for your self you don't get the link.
Faux Mink Fur Full Length Coat with Hood
$165.98, 2 for $319.99
You even have their pictures on your site and Wow you have a good markup. Do they know you are using their pictrues?

I might expect that from 3rd world countries also. Shame on you.
Shag has Apoligized to me, He now understands that my motive for wanting to get a coat to dissect it, was to make them, and help others make them...that can not afford to purchase them already made.
Their are alot of people who attend burningman that have enough money but no time, decide to purchase their burner wear.
We all love burner wear! But I do know not everyone has talent to make it themselves!
To Shag...you have my respect!

Hey Mozy,
GLAD YOU ASKED! Actually, I do own the rights to that photo. No pirating here. There happens to be wholesalers out there who use it too.
Seems to be a lot of focus from this thread about valuation. How 'bout we shift to the art???
I'll start it off. Ok, HOW IS IT MADE? Approximately 16 hours MINIMUM of intricate work-detail utilizing EL into the right kind of Knapp, pile, and fiber content of Faux. Believe me, there is a lot of stuff that does not work. After a lot of trial and error (as with most creations and discoveries) the right combinations were found. In the end it may seem to appear simple - but not easy... If not illuminated with the right combination of electronics, fur, and glowie material the effect would look anemic at best.
Obviously the effect is pretty outrageous.
THAT my friends are what I hoped would wow you...not a debate on what it's worth or what it's not worth. By definition, that is in the eye of the beholder (just ask the guy who bought the last Monet at Christies) Often times when people create a form of art that others wish to have, there is a fine line between commerce and the magic. Lets chat about the magic. Is that OK??
Have an awesome creative day!
