I think we counted:
9 bruises on me
1 very swollen finger (rebar accident)
1 nasty scratch (rebar accident)

I think i came out of burning man pretty good this year. Well cept for the finger thing. Gosh did that monday when we arrived it still hurts and is quite swollen.

I don't remember much. Might that finger have anything to do with my new anal fissure?

4 stripey bruises on my left arm from getting entangled with a metal post

1 blister the size of a grape (ok... a half grape but a good sized one) on the ball of my right foot from walking all night long on 3 consecutive nights

4 or so little scrapes around my left ankle - unknown origin

A truly stellar constellation of thumbprint sized bruises on my upper right thigh - all yellowy green now. Also unknown origin.

I recommend checking the Meet-&-Greet attendees' handprints for a match.

Self-inflicted wounds

Post by TestesInSac » Wed Sep 03, 2003 11:07 am

I was using a 24oz framing hammer to pound some rebar, when exhaustion caught up to me. I missed the rebar almost completely, and instead >whacked< my shin near full-on with the hammer. Broke the skin and raised quite a lump, but nothing broken. Some of my campmates heard the sound of it and winced in pain.

I had some cuts on my heels, so I had to walk putting pressure in the part of the foot before my toes (other side of the arc), which unused to that much weight got swallen. For the last 3 days it was very painful to walk around. Sore lips... but would not trade the experience for anything in the world...

Speaking of injuries, the body of the comatose pilot of this year's second crashed Bonanza has been taken off of life support by his family. A fund for that family has been set up has been set up at Washington Mutual Bank. No word on funds for his surviving but still critically-injured passengers.

That's horrible. My thoughts are with his family.

Myself, I scraped up my palm driving rebar and I have a vicious bruise from where I got creamed by a bike Thursday afternoon, but no complaints whatsoever.

I didn't get to go this year, but a good friend I've gone with in the past had a little crash on his (my) bike. Apparently there were metal poles sticking up out of the ground on all the streets. I'm assuming they were the street signs before the signs were actually put up. Tuesday night he crashed straight into one, splitting his upper lip from his nose down and had to have it stitched up. When he was in the medical tent, they told him he wasn't alone. Apparently it was a pretty comon injury early on in the week this year.

One laceration, right knee, from climbing on the granite.
One bruise, also right knee, unknown origin. Possibly due to altercation with sign-less street post.
One quarter-sized blister, ball of right foot, due to pride and arrogance, Thursday afternoon.
Multiple blisters, both feet, from taping myself into my shoes in order to be able to dance on Friday.
Lacerations and bruises, both ass cheeks, Sunday night.

No sunburn, heat exhuation, playa eye syndrome or cough to speak of.
All in all, I think I made out pretty well.

Mental health? now that's an entirely different story. :)

remarkably unscathed

Post by Friendly Jen » Thu Sep 04, 2003 5:13 pm

This year I came back the least bangled of all years. Most of the bruises I recieved slinging ice receeded before I returned and I have only 2 scrapes on my right shin(also from the ice truck). Which WAY beats the list from last year

raw from the camel

Post by Megalion » Thu Sep 04, 2003 5:37 pm

My camelbak rubbed my ass raw the night of the Burn since I walked around bare assed for a while.

Also got a ripped up pinkie and bruised cords in my throat from being deliberately run over with a GEM electric car Sunday night. Was fucking lucky... could have easily been a lot worse. Fortunately the flagpole he had to drive over to get at me slowed him down and I just tucked and rolled when he knocked me backwards 10-15 feet.

reason for the attack? he was pissed because it was deep dusk and I told him to turn his lights on.

big toe on left foot slightly scratched.

different muscules (including buttocks) in various strain situations.

lips fully cracked and dried out.

seems like I'm coming back home healthier then i left it...
Shit, where was i for the last week... ehm...

One very nasty bruise from a major fall Roller Disco, it hurt like hell but I quickly brushed it off and continued to skate in order to save myself any further embarassment. (I love the fact that when I do something stupid like that at Burning Man people come running to see if I'm ok).

I left with no injuries cept a few tired muscles. My wife sustained a bruised nipple. But she thinks she enjoyed it. She wasn't really certain of when it happened.

Nebula of mystery bruises on right thigh

First fingernail on right hand, ripped to the quick owing to my being drunk and trying to open one of those goddamn sharp RV doors (and guys, scoff if you must, but broken nails hurt like the dickens)

Assortment of blisters on feet, ranging from quarter- to dime-sized

Dust chafe around where the tops of my Docs were

This was actually a good year for mystery playa injuries. I still have the scar from one I picked up in '01... it was deep, it was angry, and I have no fucking idea where or how I got it. Mea culpa.

Big divot out of my right shin, numerous dings and cracks on both of my thumbs, a cluster of miniscule dings on the outside curve of right calf muscle (probably from sitting cross-legged on the Playa several times), a case of Playa skin on my hands currently peeling off in various stages, twisted ankle going back down to size but still a bit ache-ish and noticeably swollen.

All in all, I still came out ahead of the injury level I sustained in '99 :D

2 scraped knees from performance art on the deep playa at 3 am.
2 bad cases of playa foot despite using Dr. Bronner's soap.
Sandra Collins's set didn't help my playa foot as I danced so hard I split them open even deeper. But the music was so good I didn't feel a thing until I got back to camp.
A bad case of dehydration that forced me to visit the nice REMSA people again...despite having 44 gallons of water with me for 2 people. Explain that one to me, I still don't know what happened...I drank like a freakin horse and still got behind the curve.

One thing's for sure, there won't be any repeats in 04. I will be in shape and ready for anything.

Electrolytes, my boy. Electrolytes.

I did Gatorade....I am sick of Fruit Punch Gatorade. Obviously my research and planning on this subject sucked. Or maybe it was all those MRE's I ate since the microwave didn't work right and I missed the Kidsville potlucks 3 days in a row. This is one area that will see a substantial revamp for 04. For those who don't remember or never saw the old e-playa I am food challenged...I can't cook worth a tinker's damn.

Allthough there were a couple of those REMSA nurses who were so damn cute.....it almost made that hour spent in the medical tent worth it.

sugar <> electrolytes

Seralyte, Pedialyte, and some damn tablets trey gave me (Medilyte?) are
all specifically formulated to prevent or treat dehydration. I think it's
magnesium, potassium, and something else that are the primary salts in
those three. I could check, but I'm comfy here with my
electrolyte-replenishing beer.

Gatorade's good for getting liquids into you, but its electrolyte-replenishing
abilities are all hype. I prefer it warm to warm water, so I drank a lot of it,
but if you're sweating a lot and not replenishing salts, it's not enough.

playa cough for a week

blisters on each of my third toes from dancing too long in hiking boots (not exactly sure why either, but they seemed to match my skirt)

bastard I missed that. what night was that? need to remember if I was drunk or stepping over light rays thinking they were guy wires.

Electrolytes help the body retain the water. That's why the daytime drink of choice was vodka and gatorade. yummy[/i]
