I wasn't sure if it was an isolated incident, but....

Post by Craiger13 » Sat Aug 30, 2008 2:56 am

It seems like he was under a great deal of stress and even became violet, overstepping his bounderies, escalating a situation that may have been handled differently by other Rangers, thus putting the Black Rock Rangers Overall reputation at stake. There is more to the story, but just want to find out if this was 'normal' for him to act in this manner. I'm not sure how he got the name Badger, but it seems he is living up to his name. The main concern is: is he badgering participants, abusing his power to satisfy his emotional and egotistical cravings, or is he (in his mind) actually to protect the safety of the overall city? I am curious to see if this was isolated or part of an ongoing situation WE need to address as a community. What was additionally interesting is that when brought to the attention of his authorities, he was apparently exempt from his behavior because of senority.

I am a second time burner and was completely shocked at the whole experience, and was more shocked that the BLM Rangers were more helpful at resolving the situation.

I come to burning man to get away from politics and just want to know if there are others having these kinds of experiences with Badger.

Thanks for everyones input.

Wow, where to begin? In the interest of full disclosure I've had personal issues with the man referred to as "Badger" for many years now. But while there are times I hate the man, I've also known him to be fair, and a damn good Black Rock Ranger who brings many years of experience and a wide general knowledge base to the position. So to have someone come on the eplaya and make a post saying he overstepped...it strikes me as odd.

I'm curious as to what happened, not because of my personal biases but because the Black Rock Rangers are such a critical part of Burning Man. Please tell your story...but be prepared to catch flak for it. He has a group of supporters that will stop at nothing to defend him, and they will resort to any and all tactics to discredit you....I have about 109 pages of documentation to back that statement up...

Anyway just give it to us straight, make sure you can support your statements, and let's take a look at it. There are all sorts of people who read this board including Senior Staff with the event. If you have a good case...and change is needed you have a good chance at seeing something done about it. But if you come on here and make claims that you can't back up...don't be surprised when all sorts of people rip you a new one.

I wonder if he met Ranger Badger or Ranger Isotopia....and I could imagine the khaki uniform with some pink and violet splashes on it...anything to break up the mono-khaki look!

unfortuatenly it has gotten way too political ....

Post by Craiger13 » Sat Aug 30, 2008 12:25 pm

and It is not worth putting good air after bad air..... THE AIR has been clear, and telling people the story is almost a waste, as the people who CAN make the change obviously don't care and are more interested in keeping him as a ranger, and protecting his senority, then in doing what is right for the overall BRC community. Seadog, head of BRC Rangers was very upset at me for bringing this up to him and was not even willing to hear my point of view. That is why I had put the post.. to see if there were others that had similar experiences of being 'badgered' that have not yet come forward.

I really don't enjoy the drama, but don't plan on coming back ever again solely because of this experience... It was not only the experience, but the cover-up that hurt the most--- ALL OF WHICH I WOULD HAVE NEVER EXPECTED AT BRC, unless I actually had the experience. I think it is ashame that a peaceful, spiritual, beautiful soul and enlightened person, such as myself who HAS added so much to BRC has lost interest because of political satire. (I must add as a side note that I have met some incredible rangers, beautiful people such as Tiera (BRC Trainer from RIChmond, CA) who seemed to be interested in the overall improvement of BRC, but time will tell if it gets worse or better :)

BOTTOM LINE: PEOPLE WILL BE PEOPLE WHEREVER YOU GO, and I WAS A FOOL TO BELIEVE OTHERWISE :)

I have released the experience to the universe, and will continue to find my way in the world toward peace, understanding and enlightenment.

FYI: Tiara is her name, and she's a friend of Badger. You can do a search for her on here and she might be helpful.

Putting all personal biases to the side for a minute, if the situation was severe enough to stop you from coming back, and if you are unhappy with Seadog's response, then this should be telling you that instead of shutting up, now is the time to speak up. BM is a do-ocracy, you gotta get involved, no spectators, and speak up. I hate to get up on the soap box and it doesn't matter if it's Badger or anyone else wearing khaki...there has to be accountability. In this case...you've been to the event for 2 years running. You have a voice. You also have an issue...it deserves to be heard and addressed by someone.

Reconsider your decision to stay quiet...

Absolutely don't bring things up and then not talk about them.
That is the worst kind of passive aggressive bullshit.

As for seniority, even Larry Harvey doesn't have the final say about the rangers.
If they forfeit credibility, everyone will just ignore them.

So what's your complaint?

And, more importantly, what exactly happened with Seadog?
I would expect the person in charge to be the most interested in this.

I choose my battles wisely and frankly I am a HUGE activist.

Post by Craiger13 » Sat Aug 30, 2008 3:35 pm

but I have been kicked out already for speaking up and going to the Ranger to try to 'DO-marcracy' to do something for the community. They are not even letting me in to get my other truck and trailer, and when speaking to other Rangers in town about this, they refuse to 'get involved'.

I choose to leave those things alone that I have No control over, and while I am doing what I can, with a positive attitude and spirit, that is continuing to piss off everybody who is driven by fear and ego. Even the Burning Man Office, which I am parked right outside of using the internet has called the local Sheriff's at SEADOGs suggestion, even though I am sitting here as peaceful as possible simply trying to arrange for somebody to take

BLM at t his point are being much more helpful than BRC Ranger, which is completely shocking to me.

I continue to stay peaceful, positive and am not letting the 'system' get my down. What is most ironic is that I have come here to get away from the "SYSTEM"

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I AM NOT HERE FOR THE DRAMA and that is why I have not chosen to tell the complete story -- which I have no problem sharing. I am only trying to find a SOLUTION right now, which is difficult when the few seem to be controlling everything. ANY SUGGESTIONS would be greatly appreciated. THE TRUTH WILL COME OUT SOON ENOUGH AND WILL SET US ALL FREE!

Depending on circumstances, I would ask the sheriff or BLM to escort you in to pick up your property, or find out why they have been seized by burning man llc.

You have still not told us anything about what happened.

Ok...something's not right here. If they kicked you out, there's usually a damn good reason for it. As I said I'm no Badger fan but I know he takes his on playa duty very seriously. If they tossed you...there's almost always a very good reason for it.......

There are 3 sides to every story.........

Post by Craiger13 » Sat Aug 30, 2008 9:56 pm

and the main side I am interested is in the truth. I know that everything happens for a reason; and I now realize that I am not suppose to be at burning man -- I was told I could return next year, but I now realize that it is NOT the place for me... Just reading the back of the ticket makes me realize that I am dealing with people who don't want to be accountable for their actions  I am not interested in being around people who just want to look the other way. I understand there are clicks and many of these people who have heard the story second hand from Badger have determined me the 'bad guy'. Unfortunately, this is the case of his word versus mine, it doesn't really matter what the truth is, as people who know Badger can't fathom how he acted. WE call make mistakes.. what makes a true man is someone who WILL admit that mistake. i have made many mistakes in my life, and perhaps even in this situation, but I was only 'responding' based on what was presented to me. If I had to do things differently, I might, but then I wouldn't have had such an incredible time outside of burning man at the hotsprings, and in spending time alone in self-reflection. I have found out that two of BAdgers 'pet-peeves' are people driving on the Emplanage and people on megaphones -- two of my mistakes, as well as the mistake of NOt reading the 'RULES' as frankly I didn't realize there were 'rules'. I totally understand and agree that in a city of 50+ K, we need to have some 'standards' to keep the peace and minimize the chaos, but we have to be in control of our emotions and leave our own egos out of it. We need to NOT be violent or aggressive towards others, unless someone is posing a safety risk to someone else or to the community at large.

I have been conditioning myself over the years to make logical decisions and act rational, trying to minimize my ego and emotions, but I guess I am expecting too much that others would do the same. I have released emotions of pain and suffering and anger, as it doesn't serve anybody. My main interest in the original post is in trying to prevent others from going through what I have, and to call attention to other burners that life on the playa may not be all it seems. While I do agree it is to closest to a 'perfect' community, we must continue to strive to improve the city. WE MUST not disillusion ourselves, and must continue to strive for the truth, even if it is painful.. ONCE we overcome that pain, THEN we can move through it into pleasure.

I even wanted to apologize for MY mistakes in my interaction with Badger, but he was no open to loving communications.

BOTTOM LINE: WE must forgive others, as it only haunts our own spirits.

Craiger, you aren't allowed to drive anything but a bicycle without a permit.
Even then, you aren't allowed to drive on the esplanade except in special circumstances.
But that normally gets you taken off the road, or at worst your vehicle impounded, not thrown out of the event.

So exactly what happened?
And why would Seadog have them call the sheriff because you were outside the office?

Hmmm. Well, since we're still WAITING to hear the truth which will set us ALL free of this mess . . . I've come up with a theory -- a guess, if you will.

I think Craig
"a peaceful, spiritual, beautiful soul and enlightened person, such as myself who HAS added so much to BRC"
got "invited" to leave the hot springs (or ushered out) by Badger.

I speculate that then he then got in his vehicle and drove around the esplanade and used that bull horn of his to whine and generally try to create dissatisfaction and havoc amongst the other burners -- get a "following."

Kind of "fits" since he seems to be projecting onto Badger and BM in general that we must keep control of our emotions. LOL

I have no earthly idea how to fit into the equation Badger (and probably Seadog) not being "open to loving communications" as he said.

If my little "story" happens to be correct, maybe they shoulda just taken his keys and his bullhorn for "safekeeping" and let him run around the playa and whine. That woulda been interesting.

I'll bet some more of you can come up with some stories as to what might have really happened (until we get the real deal spilled here).

:D

Badger is slicker than owl shit.. whatever the fuck that means.

So we are all on the playa having a grand old time tripping our faces off and some yahoo comes screaming by at about 40 miles an hour with a bullhorn whining like a bitch about getting booted from the hot springs. We're like hey fucktard, the hot springs are verboten you shoulda read the fucking manual. A few minutes or hours later (I was tripping my face off) the same yahoo almost runs me and a bunch of other folks down with his UNLICENSED vehicle which didn't even look mutated in the least and had NO FLAME EFFECTS. So I'm like WTF dude.. why did you try to kill me with your ride? He said fuck you hippie Badger told me I could do this. Than I said fuck you, Badger is too cool for walk in camping now show me yer tits. Shortly thereafter the Rangers got his retarded ass under control and OUT of the event.

I guess he should just get his shit towed out of there.. he's lucky I was nice enough not to prosecute him for attempted vehicular homocide.

That was dadaras thing this year.. Checkpoint Dreamyourtopia.. you didn't go so you missed the whole Apok gone pink with soft S&M overtones. It was kinda slick in its own kinda way, too bad the vehicle couldn't have been a lil more mutated with flame effects. The camo was cool though for what its worth.
Craiger13 wrote:but I have been kicked out already for speaking up and going to the Ranger to try to 'DO-marcracy' to do something for the community.
Not true.. you know why you were kicked out since it was told to you quite plainly.

Than share away.. its a do-ocracy thing.
Craiger13 wrote:THE TRUTH WILL COME OUT SOON ENOUGH AND WILL SET US ALL FREE!
And thats when this thread is gonna get really juicy. :)

But I'll giva ya some suggestions for next year..

1)RTFM
2)Keep in mind the Rangers are VOLUNTEERS who often play a role to aid the community and often keep folks from more serious trouble with the law. Getting kicked out is better than getting locked up or charged.
3)Do NOT use the springs since they are closed to the public around the time of the event. This comes under Read The Fucking Manual.
4)As a participant in our community you cannot drive around without a licensed mutant vehicle. This also comes under RTFM.

If I had things my way nobody would be licensed without flame effects and you would have been flogged before being kicked out. Your vehicle is likely being used as a BBQ as we speak. Where do ya think the car-b-que came from.. they never did find those hippies.

Post by jcoffy » Tue Sep 02, 2008 12:22 pm

I saw a shit ton of people driving around in their non mutated vehicles this year. It was really fucking terrible. I even saw a bunch of frat boys in their truck drive out to the burn...

Craiger if you were one of these dudes driving around the Esplanade then fuck you. You deserve getting kicked out. People die that way asshole.

Most disabilities aren't visible.
There should still be a permit, though on occasion someone has to use another vehicle while having a permit on something else.

Some people just ignore the rules, especially around the time of the burn.
Just look at the assholes stealing signs!
They just need a t-shirt that says "I went to burning man and didn't get a fucking thing except this sign".

The dpw has been doing a good job making signs that shatter when stolen.
I hope they kept that up this year.
