Will Call Waiting Areas (aka Concentration Camp)

Post by Alligatorz » Wed Sep 03, 2008 8:45 am

I have a major complaint about the disorganized cluster fu%k that occurred with will call. One of our campmates bought his ticket via will call and I was unlucky enough to have him in my car. When we arrived at the gates on monday morning at around 12:30am just after BM opened, we were sent into a holding area in which we were told to wait for what turned out to be nearly 7 hours while they let other cars in. The people running the show, presumably DPW, acted like a-holes to everyone and could not give so much as a rough estimate as to how long they were going to hold us in what we termed "concentration camp." BM LLC has to come up with a different plan for will call next year, such as give it its own line that curves out far enough to accomidate more cars without delaying those who don't have will call. We made the best of our situation with those around us who were similarly situated but my god it sucked and by the time we got in, I had been awake 26 hours and it was already too late in the day to try to sleep, so I was not in the best of moods on the first day to say the least.

I had a similar experience with will_call in 07 at 5am Monday
morning.

I picked up a dude in town at the Sands in Reno . He had just
arrived at the airport, got food & water, talked him into a small $30
tent at Wallymart, hit the Melting Pot then arrived at BRC at 5am.

He had a will call ticket and I was getting way pissed since the
will call line didn't move for the half hour we were there.
He was not allowed to walk in from will call so I could meet him
on the other side.

We found a solution: I drove in with his stuff, found a solo camp
site and arranged to meet him at 8am at 7:30 and C. I ended up
at 7:45 and A which was not far away. Meanwhile he had already
lined up a ride thru gate with burners in line ahead of him to ride
past gate/greeters. I had minimal wait and he had a 30 min wait
before we reconnected at the end.

Some campmates in our group had a similar experience.. they left early from Reno since they knew they had to stop at will call. We caught up to them and started pulling into the dirt, we found out (using radios) that they had just made it to the will-call line. Sounded like great timing. This was about 2:30am on Monday morning. Anyway, we made it in and found a campspot within an hour or so but they were not able to join us until after 7am! Apparently, they were held in that lot the entire time as well.

that'll teach em not to rely on volunteers too much and get with the radical self reliance and get that ticket in hand asap

Presumably DPW? Heck, presumably Gate/Perimeter! Your attention paying skills don't impress me. And that was maybe one of the worst times to hit the gate. Just saying.
