Maybe you people should send decoy ravers through Gate loaded with nothing but glowsticks & blinky crap.

But how would these decoy candy kids handle attempted robbery in any form? pepper spray? S&M toys?
Maybe we can do an "art project" along these lines.
We can call it SOOT.
Stomping

Organic
Thieves
This would still allow robotic thieves open access to the playa for COGS.

Inevitable Corruption
This is why I plan to volunteer next year as a greeter..
Sorry for your loss, glad you had a good time anyway.

I can't recall anything.
But I can call again and again until they pick up.

problem solved:
"For those curious, the instigator of the COG was Lowrent the clown,
who was booted from DPW and sailed majestically to the gate, where he
has been ever since. I wouldn't ordinarily call out the subject of
one of these discussions, but he loves the attention and isn't shy
about the whole thing. You can contact him on myspace if you're
feeling punchy and/or masochistic:

Personally I think we should all make a concerted effort to wear as much glow as possible next year in the hopes of attracting one of these COG assholes...then we can ceremoniously beat them up and give them an education in the concept of private property and the defense thereof (I know I know violence is not the answer but it feels so good sometimes especially when some self-important 20 year-old punk is attempting to boss someone around about something as trivial as a glowstick)....And we can call it "performance art".....I suggest registering this as an art project under the name of the Anti-COG Paramilitaries...

"stuff bought at Wal-Mart or from China"
90% of Burners bring stuff made in China, read the label. Lots bring stuff from wall mart. If this story is true all the OP has to do is look at photos of people working the gate that day, ID the thief and press charges. The cops at BM have very little real police work to do (other then drug crime) This is is real police work.

Hey, that's MY idea! A horse skeleton with a bunch of baseball bats connected to anchors via thin cable so they have a better chance of staying near the skeleton. Circa 2005. But I never could find a good horse skeleton. Dog and cat skeletons run about a hundred bucks.mamagrrl wrote:Me, I'm going to bring a horse skeleton to the playa next year and give y'all baseball bats.
So you can beat the dead horse some more.

Well Geekster, here's the skull, looking for the rest of the skeleton, maybe behind the local Chinese restaurant?geekster wrote:Hey, that's MY idea! I didn't get harassed, exactly, but I did have to deal with a total buffoon. I managed to pass the will-call entry in the white-out on Monday morning. So when I got up to the first gate, the guy told me to pull over to the side of the road and someone would take me through to will call. They let me drive through the gate and another white out came up, the woman told me to drive through the fence and park along the road and walk to will call, since it was dangerous to be driving with all the people stumbling around. So I did. I parked and walked to Will Call and got my ticket. I got back to my truck and started to drive back to the road and I hear what sounds like someone kicking the side of my truck. I look out and there's some guy chasing me, hitting my truck with something. I stopped and opened my window and he screams,
"Who the fuck are you and where did you come from!"
me:"That woman over there told me to park here and go to Will Call, I just got my ticket and I'm driving back to the line..."
"Shut Up! I'm gonna have to search your stuff"
at which point he's digging stuff out of the back of my truck. Then he comes back and says,
"I've had ENOUGH of your SHIT, get the fuck out of here!"
It would have been almost funny if I hadn't just sat in white out conditions for 2 hours, re-routed twice into overflow lots and forgotten about while everyone else drove by, and then stood in line in a whiteout at Will Call for an hour while the computers kept shutting down.
Then the guy at the bell yelled at someone in my truck who wanted to ring the bell.
Welcome to Burning Man.

I will also say that I had a run in with the BLM guys, or whatever they are. The "police". I was out walking in the open desert to get away from all the noise and I stopped to put some glow sticks on. They drove up and hit me with the spot. For a second I thought I wasn't allowed to be out there. They just thought maybe I was starting a fire. We talked for a minute and they drove away. They were friendly and respectful and as they drove off said, "Have a safe burn". Much more friendly than several of the Burning Man volunteers I dealt with over the week.
Everyone,
Through the generous act of gifting my economic loss is being restored. I appreciate that very much.
I must say that the PG&E people did not knowingly take or use my stuff intentionally, nor did the Welcomers or Greeters. If any of them did, it was because the person / people that stole my goods, deceived them. In addition, it is certainly not the policy of any of the departments to steal (IMO) and I never thought that to start with. When people commit crimes they violate everyone’s trust. It’s deplorable. Hopefully, these people are never trusted again.
I just want to say a quick thanks to everyone who’s explored this issue to this point and who have verbalized or even added silent thought.
Best, and again- thank yous,
Troy
