Kil-uck aka Killbuck lives close to the playa and visits during the year..

He said the lack of rain has made the (winter) lake smaller.. No water stood in the area BRC is on.. This has gone on for a couple of years..

No lake = dust waves in BRC.. If this is the case.. We are going to have to change our mods of transportation. evolve may be a good thing..

The sand waves wll eat those little scooters and other small wheeled dust throwers..

I'll vouch for excessive dryness.

At end of Jan 06 the entire playa was bone dry when I drove
the 25 miles from the 3 mile entrance to Double Hot hot springs.

more surface area=more flotation, which, is what you want on soft playa............however you do it.

Some will say one wide tire is better, some say duals......it is somewhat different in that a single really wide tire will provide maximum flotation, for the same surface area, but, get somewhat less traction. As a set of duals sink a little, more tire bites into the surface. That's probably more important for an engine powered vehicle........
Tread pattern is huge, too.......

Your right.. duals would sink and my legs would have to apply more power.. We will be seeing more engine powered stuff..

The city is so large a person can not walk to all the art.. Walking also limits how far away from camp you can party..

According to NOAA there was more rain between 07 and 08 than there was between the 06 and 07 events. But there were more days below freezing after the last rain in 08 ... the last significant rain was earlier than usual causing frost to heave the surface up and make it fluffier.

But we are also in a general cooling phase climatically with the PDO having switched from about a 30 year "warm" phase to a "cool" phase around January of 07 and cooler times are generally dryer times so based on historical records (such as now swamped trees 100 feet below the surface of Lake Tahoe) things like 50-100 year long droughts are pretty much the norm in this region of the country on a geological timescale.

How about ATV sand paddle tires mounted on a garden tractor powered MV.. They are wide fatties.. The paddles don't touch the ground on hard surfaces..
