Arguing, or "battling" as you put it on a forum IS hiding behind a fake name.

I've seen a lot of people taking the piss out of each other, but for the most part you can tell it's in jest.

At least, I can tell it's mostly in jest. Irony seems to be lost on some. And again, I'll say "mostly". There are a few folks out there with nothing better to do than to spew trash and bad vibes. 'tis the nature of forums.
