Burningman getting worse every year?
At one point last year, I realized that all of the people around me at some burnwait, were yuppie tourists. All of the same age group, they were mostly boring affluent couples wearing various versions of khaki. Burningman has become the trendy cool thing to do for this group, who had just discovered another type of vacation destination. Then I thought---these are the people that I think are systematically destroying what's left of SF and now they were there in Black Rock City.
Most likely they'll get bored and move on.....

From much reading of other folks experiences:
Seems to be that BM is always changing (dare I say evolving?).
The current event bares no resemblance to the early events.
Change happens. It should be embraced.
IMO people that constantly complain that the old days were better, simply don't get the big picture.
BM will change, has changed, always changes.
Don't like it? Stay home.

Don't ass-ume, that "I art more playa than thou" shit is just ugly. I got a chuckle from a virgin burner one year as he made the "khaki wearing tourist" comment about Danger Ranger as he walked by our camp.nugget2022 wrote:At one point last year, I realized that all of the people around me at some burnwait, were yuppie tourists. I think you mean:
Let's play jaded Burner Mad-Libs!!!
"Burning Man was so much better when (subject and action)"
"Burning Man used to be about (noun) now its just about (noun)"
"The only people who go to Burning Man these days are (collective noun)"
"(Plural) are ruining Burning Man"
"I think Burning Man has been dying since (event)"
"There's so many (trend) camps on the playa. I think I'll start an eighties dance camp!"

To be fair he could still turn out to not be a serious burner, but so far, so good.Sage Venkman wrote:

Humm, serious bunner as opposed to someone who isn't quite so serious about their burning?gyre wrote:To be fair he could still turn out to not be a serious burner, but so far, so good.Sage Venkman wrote:

What about someone who is serious sometimes but not others?
Is this a form of racism we play, burners are this and burners are that, are burners a minority? Can we get some fucking recognition please, we don't become burners by choice, we are born this way.

I suppose any party or cause can outgrow the good intentions of its original founders to the point it looks to them like the very thing that they were trying to get away from.
Just look at the U.S.
By the way, they don't normally put ketchup on the "French Fries" in France, but rather mayonaise. They're not even called French Fries in France or anywhere else in Europe. They're "Chips".
Anybody know the French word for French Fries?

I find it ironic that the OP seems selfish and snobbish while he/she complains about the people who are "ruining burning man".
I bet you wouldn't like me either. But while you're snubbing me, I'm having a burn that tops my last 6.

Pommes Frites. (I don't know if that's spelled right, but it's in the ball park.) The Belgians invented them, apparently. If they were the Flemish or the Walloons is not in my knowledge base.bogotron wrote: Anybody know the French word for French Fries?
And katsup and mayo are both kind of gross.

Evolution isn't always beneficial
I see the integrating the theme into the post, but, I am pointing out, wrong path - not the fittest - death.
Theme camps are chosen, I don't know if the people who do the choosing have a specific agenda, but, the choice of what theme camps go where, and which theme camps get placed at all, affects the character of burning man to an extent.
This event is victim of intelligent design.
And when the intelligent designers do not possess all of the variables (they can't, they're human) bad decisions can be made.
Whether they have been or not is yet to be seen, frankly, I'm gonna go, and have the best time I possibly can.
I have a very specific agenda that should function independent of what theme camps were chosen, What media was censored in previous years, and how many frat boys show up.
Happy burn all :)
