I left my mind on the Playa...

Post by peterakabob » Sat Sep 18, 2010 1:58 am

After being back "home" in the default world for a couple o' weeks now, nothing really seems the same. This year was my first burn and it was an incredible experience, dare I say best time I've EVER had. I met some amazing people and saw lots of incredible stuff. I also take some pride in the fact that I didn't really partake in many mind-altering substances (other than alcohol) while I was there, but I still feel like I went through a crazy mind-bending acid trip, per se.

I feel like I left my mind on the playa, and I am going to have to come back and visit it again next year. Camping in a tent and roughing it like that kind of breaks you, in a sense (I refuse to take a motor home for this reason).

Even now though, not quite 2 weeks later, I still have trouble comprehending and processing what I went through.

Sorry if this sounds sulky, depressing, and somewhat disconnected, but that's just kind of how I feel and it's been hard figuring things out... Perhaps some of you might have some advice?

as a fellow first timer, i know what you mean. I wrote alot about my reactions in my "observations from a virgin after a week on the playa" thread, and even though I had alot more phenethylamines in my system than you did, it sounds like our rentry procedures were pretty similar.

in fact, it wasnt until this past week (wed evening to be exact, i recall the exact moment i snapped out of it..) that I felt somewhat normal again. I've been grumpy to family and withdrawn at work prior to my "recovery moment". ( to me, it was getting another vintage cruiser from craigslist to replace the one i lost on the playa, and singing at the top of my lungs on the way home. that was when my joy came back, wednesday night).

i don't see where you are from, but find others near you. i went to a post burn bar night tonight, and had a blast. i wore my jeans from my yet to be unpacked bags, so i still had dust on them, lol. i had my sweaty, dusty bandana around my neck. at the bar, i ran into someone that gave me half a bottle of water when i was thirsty on the playa, and a bunch of other awesome people.

i am meeting alot of great people from my local burner community, and asking for help on where to focus this abundance of energy i have.

i honestly believe that as much as we need the old guard for their guidance, they need us for our enthusiasm :) find others like you in your community! they are out there, i bet.

Thanks robrob, appreciate your replay! (btw I'm in Seattle, just fixed that on my profile.) I know it sounds silly, but there's nothing like waking up on the playa and listening to "The End" by The Doors.

"Ride the snake..."

For some reason, it just makes too much sense.

enjoy your first decompression...........revel in it.....it'll never be the same.

Perfectly normal (well.........however you want to define normal).

I look back on my first visit, and first "decom", and, still smile.

drinking whiskey when you first wake up, helps.

Well, my body drove home from the playa in 2 days, but my mind decided to walk home. I'm sure it'll be here any day now.
