Best/Most Memorable meal on the playa
So what is your most memorable meal whilst on the playa? Maybe it was the most delicious? Maybe it was just that one that seemed to SAVE YOUR LIFE at the time? Have you been gifted great meals? Did you do the gifting? Tell us!
Well, I'll start. My boyfriend's parents have been long-time burners and once we started going (we weren't camped with them) they would provide home-cooked meals once a day. (this was really the only time we ate all day - but on the playa, one filling meal is all you need). There is a traditional meal that she will serve close to the end of the week, normally on friday. My boyfriend can never come until later in the week than the rest of us (school, work, etc) so his mom has him bring some Thai food that she bought at home from the BEST Thai place around. She freezes it for a week before the burn, then he brings it on the Thursday he is able to come. She heats it up around Friday midday and it is the BEST! (Especially for those of us that have been on the playa all week...) She shares her home-cooked meal with the neighbors around and any of the friends we have on the playa who we may have run into, etc. her meals have saved my life many-a-time whilst out on the playa.

Like Roseanne Barr, my favorite restaurant is Cinnabon. Thus, anytime we bake up those pillsbury (or plain-wrap) frosted cinnamon buns on the playa I am having my favorite meal. You gotta try them out there... gift any extras to your neighbors and they will have foodgasms. Trust me.

I agree about the cinnamon rolls, we had an oven for the first time last year and hot sweet rolls were excellent!
The tri-tip hot off the grills, amazing. That was 2002? 03? And now I've forgotten his name, but he had three grills .... dang. This is someone I know... I think....
Random plates of hot food, yum, although with food allergies we often have to pass them up.
Who handed Larry the excellent curry at Booby Bar this year? I know I know but I'm blanking on names this morning.... sheepishly sorry... but that was damn fine food!
Grilled cheese sandwiches on the street.
Naked Vegan Pancakes in Hushville.
Stone Soup tortilla and egg and stuff breakfast our first year in Hsuhville.

Walking back, from my brief visit at the Med tent, someone offered me a strip of bacon. Bacon has never tasted soo good! It was almost like a shot of adrenaline. As far as meals go...we grilled a pork loin for our camp, along with a cucumber salad, it was amazing!

EAsy one:
One night, pre-event....driving art car out past esplanade toward the man. Way off deep by the trash fence is a light in the cold swirling dust.
We make our way to it and find the Dust City Diner folks servering hot grilled to order grilled cheese sandwiches (on sourdough!), served with a dill pickle on the side and a cup o' piping hot coffee.
All served from a trailer converted to look like a formica-bedecked 50's diner.
Surreal and awesome. My birgin wife's eyes were as big as saucers...for days she kept telling people..."But you don't understand. It was a diner...way out there....and it just disappeared!"

someone special gave me a Klondike bar - yummy
one year someone had just baked chocolate chip cookies and was offering fresh cookies and milk - yummy but almost too good for out there
chips and salsa in the afternoon
These are all things I eat very rarely in default world, but out there they're fabulous.

Mines quite simple- I had hit a wall on Sunday and was done. Done done done. I wanted eggs and I wanted to go home, and fat chance of either since we weren't planning on leaving until Monday and I had no eggs.
Right about this time a friend from Airship Victoria comes over to me and asks if I want an egg & salsa wrap. I followed her back to their kitchen, had a super yummy egg, pepper, salsa & sriracha wrap. Definitely put me in a better mood.

I agree Emily. I was riding with a friend, we saw the sign with the "olde" fashioned graphic of a finger pointing, "ice cream"EmilyD wrote:Not a full meal but, the frozen soft choc/van ice cream being doled out on Detroit was SMASHING!
"Shall we?" "Why, Soytennly!" I had my sierra cup and spork clipped to my belt and I blessed my little gearhead angels.
Later in the evening, our neighbor from England said it was nice ice cream, but tasted a little odd. I asked if he had tried the Strawberry? Frozen yogurt then.

Ya the strawberry was definitely not as good. It was a tad sour but hell what do you want for free on day 4 in the desert? ;-)Elorrum wrote:I agree Emily. Another fine meal we had was our camp host's dad, film maker Les Blank, making incredible ham sandwiches with romaine lettuce, Heirloom tomatoes and grainy mustard and provolone on rough home baked multi-grain raisin bread...OMG mmmmm. Then there was night I made appetizers, cream cheese and caviar, or anchovies (wrapped around capers) on water crackers with dirty martinis and Manhattans.
Also...the pre-1/2 cooked bacon I made (organic, nitrate-free) was magnificent crumbled and scrambled into eggs with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese. No wonder we hardly left camp (OINK!)
