Best: making a pair of greeter crews work for who got to greet us. We were early entry so the place was nearly empty. As we drove up, 2 greeter crews were waving at us. So we slowed to 2 mph and steered back and forth towards the lanes depending on who jumped and waved the hardest. Felt bad having to pick one but we met em all in the end.

WORST: Gate has a job to do. I know that. Hey, we all know that. When I say Gate may have been a bit aggressive, it's like saying Stassi may hay have been a bit aggressive. Never felt so ' we know you have them, please make it easier on you and - do you have family in Defaultia? - we WILL search till we find them'. They, 3 of them, aggressively opened and made some messes all over my Class C, honestly in places yogis would have trouble hiding, and continued in my trailer, untarping and having me shift things in unusual ways, seemingly because they could make me, not necessarily because there was much chance a stowaway could be found. Like I said, they have a job to do. It seemed they were looking for EVERY stowaway in my rig. May I respectfully say, Gate, do some real profiling. It's possible that 65 year old Burner couples do not require this level of hot aggravated attack and search. A nominal search might suffice. Possibly the most unnerving entry ever. Kept our cool, but it was like having a conversation with a foreign police force who really didn't understand you. They were going to do it, don't get in there way. We pulled over after a short while after, poured a cuppa, and sorta looked each other, glad we weren't virgins. Really, it was unpleasant.

Weird: My greeter told me in the interest of safety we couldn't get out of our rig to get a hug. It seems one year we were told to get out, given big hugs then told to get on all fours and spanked. Jeez. What's happened? I know they said to wear my seatbelt, but what are they trying to do, make this a theme park? Oh shit. Never mind...

Aye--if it was a high volume time, or visibility was poor, they may have been following Greeter rules. Greeters are extroverted folks (for the most part), and it probably actually pained them not to greet.

It's usually the other way around--people who have been to the desert 5 or 10 times, and don't want the extra stop.

Savannah is right. If visibility is bad or if Greeters are slammed with a lot of people coming in, we have to ask people to stay in cars (and we hate that). I have seen people run into each other, drive headlong into oncoming traffic, and run people over in blowing dust. In very low visibility when cars have to be stopped, at the moment it clears enough to get some cars through, you have to be ready to go. Greeters try to remind everyone to have seat belts fastened, drive at 5mph, etc to avoid the LEO stops that are now a frequent occurrence between Greeter's and the city.

Anyone who wants to be greeted in high style should come out to the Greeter's Station and play with us during less busy times!
