ways to get f^cked on the way to burning man

Post by dragonfly Jafe » Tue Aug 31, 2004 2:22 pm

Well, here it is tuesday and we are still sitting at home. We spent all last week getting ready, all friday packing (finished at 4am saturday). Slept for 4 hours, only to break down 45 minutes from home. This with the vehicle we just spent $3800 overhauling so it would not break down. For the record, we did get appx. 15 minutes further out of town than last year before our first breakdown, so things are better this year.

So in Melba, Idaho (or anywhere nearby) there are no mechanics that work on Saturday (I question if there are any mechanics at all in the state of Idaho, but I digress). We spend all day Saturday in the hot sun replacing parts to no avail. Sunday morning, while we are preparing to delve into a carburator rebuild on the side of a busy highway, we discover a broken weld on the trailer. So we spend sunday fixing that. On monday we get our broken truck into a repair shop. They don't get to it until Tuesday (despite promising us when we had it towed to them that they had an immediate opening), then spend the whole day repeating what we already told them in writing we have done. So now they have had the truck for 2 days, have no clue what is going on, and are about to start tearing the engine apart.

I am seriously questioning if I will make it this year. I hope everyone else is having fun, I am not.

Dragonfly, don't give up! Maybe you've just been saved from some horrific accident on the way or something. You know how it is, once you're there you'll look back and think, phew, thank god that happened. I truly believe that. I'm so sorry it has turned out this way, wish I could help. Hang in there you still have many days ahead...

I think you will make it. Even if you just see the city as people are getting ready to leave you will be glad you did. I, however and stuck thousands of miles away in another country with no hope of a plane ticket for several months. My only hope to see the party is the webcam on the playa when they post it. Hope you feel better. Don't give up. :P
