And spent hours riding the bus to Gerlach on different days, to check in..
But don't ever, EVER "check in" again.
Definitely shouldn't need to check in - 2002 was my boyfriend's first year going to BM (I couldn't get the time off from my new job), and he pretty much told me, "I'm going to be out of *all* contact for the whole week. Don't expect a phone call." Okay...cool. There was only one time I really needed to get ahold of him (it was kind of an emergency with the family felines), but I survived intact. Of course, I didn't know there was a TOWN close by BM...with a functioning PHONE, dammit...!
After attending my first BM this year, I totally saw that there's no TIME to think about trucking all the way into Gerlach just to use the Landline Leash to tell a significant other about things they're probably not going to relate to anyhow...("I wanted to call you hon, but I was busy getting my pussy shaved and lost track of time...") In case of a family emergency, one can always do the Nevada Info phone thing to contact the LLC in Gerlach.
Oh, yeah - and the one thing I truly forgot this year was my new didgeridoo that I'm still learning to play. I remembered that I forgot it right around Gresham (we live in downtown PDX) and we were already behind schedule. Everything else falls under the category of "What I Should Have Brought This Year And Didn't".
