Speaking of that. Did ANYONE find the monkeys? I looked twice and never found it.

Is it just me or was this a mooptastic year? Not only did our camp members or neighboring camps apparently not care at all (woodwork without a tarp underneath, leaving empty cans on the ground for the entire week), but when picking up moop on the open playa, people asked if we had lost something.
When pointing out to someone that their glitter wings were mooping, the answer was "it only a little, I've been picking up trash all week". It's "leave no trace", not "leave a little trace". Shouldn't women understand that no means no?

Hahahaha, I found them once by accident and then Ellorum and I found them twice on purpose. 8) Full disclosure: we looked at the map.

And I don't wanna get into a argument about the Rangers, but I will say that wherever the Rangers were at on that Sunday night, they weren't at their station, and I was standing outside across the street there, all night, watching, and wondering if I could borrow some of their chairs. :?

All I know is what I saw with my own eyes. I found it disturbing. But nurses will always do whatever needs to be done, because we care, so, all the stray folk had warmth and water and a place to belong until daylight. They were welcome to stand on our corner. But I felt angry on their behalf, seeing that big dark space full of unused comfort.

And hearing that Rangers think "burnery" is undesirable, well... I really wonder about them now. :|

Amen Badger! I rarely rode an Artcar this year...enjoying the playa at a speed my senses could respond....and had countless near misses with darktards...

in fact darktards were my only legitimate complaint this year...

Aside from having a little playa meltdown this year, my worst was the bunch of Brits who decided to do whippets out in the open in our camp while we were doing one of our dye sessions at Dye With Dignity. I don't care what you do in YOUR camp, but keep your law-enforcement-search-bait outta my camp.

I overheard an asshat asking one of my campmates for one of the cheeseburgers she was cooking, then he asked for something to drink, then he asked for a place to sleep. He then made the terrible mistake of admitting in my presence that he was a stowaway. I screamed at him and backed him up all the way down the street to the corner, yelling in his face the entire time. I never wished more for a ranger.

Are whippets, in and of themselves, illegal? But I get your point about inviting LEO attention

It annoyed me more not because they were doing something they weren't supposed to be and could attract LEO attention but that they walked in and sat down like it was their camp.
That was my pet peeve of the year, wouldnt really count it as a worst part but we were camped on a corner and atleast three groups a night would walk right through our camp and were confused when we asked why they couldn't use the road (not 30 feet away)

I don't recall including the invitation for people to set up a little nitrous picnic next to our shade structure in the What Where When. It was presumptuous to start blowing up nitrous balloons in full view of the street.

I've known a few folks who had to try for ranger more than once. One was too "care bear". The ones who never made it were usually too gung-ho or in it for the ticket.

Every person who has lived in my basement guest room and been a burner has become a BRC ranger. I guess you have to come stay with me for a few weeks, Grai. It's magic.

Top thing of all - finding out a close friend had passed, seconds after parking my car to unload in the default. I really wish I could have found out while on playa so that I could have mourned him in my own way, but... So it goes.

Working exodus was the single worst thing I've done on playa. I'll be doing it again, though, because I am some kind of sick freak. So many angry and entitled drivers. Had to deal with some girl being upset at me because her boyfriend was in a different car that had switched lanes and cut ahead in pulsing and there wasn't much i could do about uniting them. Another girl rode her bike away from her car and then couldn't find it, and then asked for help in a rude and entitled fashion... Eight hours after losing the car. That had all of her things. And a stranger driving it, that she had met the day before. I mean, seriously?! I was also almost run over by so many folks, and someone was offended when I didn't want half of their pot brownie. It's a graveyard exodus pulsing shift and I'm busy dodging cars of strung out burners, that's the last thing I need!

The theme camp I was in was basically five of us holding up the party of twenty or so folks who fit the Los Angeles Sparklepony stereotype so disturbingly well. They continuously smoked pot in our public camp area, and I'm frankly surprised we never got a visit from BLM. It was on a busy street, in the open, and obvious, and their response to being told to walk ten entire feet over to go to a private spot was "it's chill, man!" Couple that with the fact that nobody, except for the core folks, stood up to set anything up, tear down, or MOOP, and you have a terrible shitty equation. Besides being stressed out about the constant wafting skunk smell from our camp, they left their cigarettes on the ground, threw all of their trash into the burn barrel, made a huge mess of things, and left behind a few jugs worth of piss, and lots of trash. It was way less of a community to them and way more of a desert coachella. I was so hoping for a storm to come through, but their terrible untied monkey huts and carports would have gone flying down the street, endangering others... And they didn't accept my offer to tie it down for them. Despite that, though, by the end of the week, all of my rebar and bungees, other than that which I had personally used, had disappeared from my stuff. Interesting! The only fun thing about this camp was watching some total plug and play babies never get their RV delivered to them. They think the guy they paid and bought a ticket for went off and partied with their RV. They panicked all week about it and complained about things like dust and hot weather... Their whole burn week was which DJ was at which camp.

Harassed by BLM at an art car on a night when I went out with friends after working all day/evening... Totally sober, nothing at all, not even some booze, and pulling some jolly ranchers out of one pocket, lead to an ordeal.

The quadricycle I built for my parents so they could be mobile while on the playa... Broke immediately. So, my not-so-mobile parents were unable to see hardly anything, and didn't have a welcoming home-camp atmosphere because we had rehab-bound idiots talking about their hangovers and smoking blunts. Look, I don't care what drugs you take, hell, I take a few out there myself, but I don't spend all day talking about how hungover I am and all night talking about how high I am.

Agh, the list could go on, but I'll cut it here. This year was my first not-totally-positive-and-awesome burn, and it sucks, but it is what it is. Next year is always the best year. It'll be better. It always is.

I had my best burn ever and only a few things made it less than a perfect one:

1. Having flu like symptoms for a day and a half.

2. A 4 hour entry line. I know this is not uncommon but on early entry Thursday before gate opens?

3. The panic packing and rush to sit 8 to 10 hours in exodus that had folks packing their vehicles and flying out without even saying their goodbyes. It killed the whole post temple burn vibe for me.

Yeah that bullshit scare tactic clear-out because of the "storm coming" caused the rest of my camp to hastily bug out... that left me traveling alone home. That's very stressful - I hope I never break down in the middle of nowhere with no friends around!
I was there 'til Wednesday... there was no storm.

ducking behind a container out in deep playa to pee (in our jugs, with our funnels - thank you pee funnel camp), two other people came back to pee without jugs or funnels. when i commented, the bitch says "what are you, a fucking spy?" to which i answered calmly, "yes, yes i am. its you fuckers who will be the demise of burning man. how will you feel then? like a jug and a funnel aren't really too much to ask, eh?"

i loved the "oh shit, you're totally right" look on her face.

other than being totally over it and packing up on sunday, for a 7 hour exodus, everything else was damn good.

I was handing out candy in Centercamp and they kept repeating the storm warning. There was a guy near us with a dish hookup. The internet reported a 20%-40% chance of rain. We stayed. That fictitious weather report caused a lot of Moop. I spent Monday mooping and chatting.

Worst part? Not being fully prepared for the heat. Reading and knowing in your head is not the same as remembering and understanding. It's been 30 years since I was that hot. Next year I'll be ready.

See this is when a narc would come in handy. A nice $500 fine for each of them to round off their trip and encourage them never to return. I am all about having burns ruined for people I don't want to ever return, and those types of people... they need burns ruined.
So how did you end up with this camp? It doesn't sound like you know them very well, and the majority are a bunch of idiots. It even reflects poorly on the core members of the camp for even allowing these fools to join up.
