Newbie Advice

Post by Glowmaster » Sun Sep 12, 2004 6:35 am

I will be attending BM for the first time in 2005. Is there anything that I could volunteer for not knowing what to expect? I'm just trying to find out if it's better to attend as a participant in the volunteer programs the first time, or would it be better to participate without volunteering the first time?
I can put a glow on anything.

Anything!

Some groups, such as the Rangers, do not want to take first year attendees because they think you should come to the event and enjoy it as a participant before putting yourself to work. Or something like that.

Other groups take first year attendees with open arms- coffee sales in center camp, and Camp Artica come to mind quickly.

Hey guys and gals thanks for the replies. As far as the MOOP goes, I always follow that rule when I camp. I've been camping in many national forrests and parks, and they all expect the same thing. Pack it in, Pack it out.

I hope to be a positive addition to the burners of the world.

Thanks again everyone.

Glow, if you want to do something that most people appreciate but do not think about. Find the lamplighters and sign up for a tour.

I was sitting on my ass Tuesday evening (I think, I lost a day somewhere in there...) and over the radio they announced that they were 40 people short for the evening.

Me, being slightly off-kilter in my thinking hopped on my bike and rode on over. I did a gig with them and have serious respect for anyone who volunteered. After a whopping 10 minutes of carrying lamps around my arms/hands/fingers were numb. It was a short term commitment on my part, but the fun, the thanks, and the whole experience made it worth it.

Thankfully I was tapped to carry around Center Camp.
