Burningman in High Definition

Post by burnbabyburn » Mon Sep 20, 2004 10:54 am

VOOM HD (The new satellite broadcaster) is running the most amazing video stories of Burningman on their HD News channel. It's like looking through a window! Cinematography is fantastic. Watch.

Pity that VOOM has hardly any subscribers. More people attend Burning Man than subscribe to the satellite network. (25,000 people as of June 30)

WOW! Someone actually saw the VOOM clips!

The photography was done by L.A. based journalist Bob Tur, a member of our camp, The Church Of The White Trash Trailer Park, out at Sedna @ 4:50 or so. For most of the shoots Bob was assisted by an assortment of 3 or 4 of our crew of 7 young film student interns and I was saddled with location production duties. Our best shot was when we got into the Thunderdome on Wednesday night (we asked and they were gracious enough to let us come on in, with a catch we found out). We were able to shoot one incredible fight scene when the announcer/ master of ceremonies “turned”on us and, in the process of putting out a hilarious rant against the media, asked the crowd if they wanted the crew to fight each other. The Dome exploded into chants of “Fight!Fight!Fight!” with an assistant pointing at me (a middle aged white lawyer dude sans creepy camera) and motioned to strap Bob and I into harnesses for our very own fight scene. Three of the interns with us, Kelsy, Kaylee and Katie, were able to make a hole in the crowd and pulled us out of the Dome with the mob snarling in glee behind us. Needless to say, we were as thrilled with the incredible footage inside the Dome as we were with living through the experience.

And to the Boa Babes camp somewhere around Saturn and 5:00, next year please check for camera credentials BEFORE you offer to kick the ass of any of our crew.
