Think Blue Man Group was Burning Man inspired or vice-versa? There's something about the way they play with things and pretend to make discoveries, and of course, the drumming. They perform all over in different incarnations including The Luxor in Las Vegas.

I dunno, but blue men will figure largely in my memories of my first Burning Man last year...I observed a large number of them (and was kissed by one of them) and was impressed by their ubiquitousness.

Blue Man Group's actually been around for about as long as Burning Man has.....here's some info:

I think their first audio release, "Audio", is one of the finest instrumental recordings of the last several years. The next release, "The Complex", is also quite good at spots but I care less for it. I think I spent two days straight in my studio after seeing their Chicago stage show.

I got blue on the playa last year too, and if i was the one who kissed you I hope I left a stain on your face.

I was riding by the camp where they paint you while wearing a kilt and it just seamed too appropriate. Took a long time to get it out of my toenails so that was a great memory.

I'm taking my family to Las Vegas next month and am debating the $80-100 ticket prices to see Blue Man Group. I don't gamble so comps are out of the question. Any suggestions? That for what, a two hour show? It cracks me up when people complain about the price of Burning Man.

A contingent of performers from Blue Man has camped on the playa for a good number of years. In BRC, they do not do Blue. Wearing, as they do, approximately silly costumes 50 weeks of the year, this crew has perhaps the best excuse of any group on the playa for not wearing costumes in BRC.

hey mr. j...i'm a huge bmg fan and have seen them 3x in vegas...well worth the moolah. hint: hang out in the lobby after the show...the bluemen come out and (still in character) will "autograph" stuff. they've left blue kisses on my cheek, a handprint on my friends bald head, etc.

also...don't miss indoor go-kart races and indoor skydiving (see flyawayzone.com) both have coupons in those freebie vegas mags in every hotel lobby.

i flew to vegas the morning after the burn last year for a friend's birthday. holy crap...talk about two different worlds!

yes, its worth it, whatever they charge you, and get as close as you can cuz they throw shit at you, and you get all covered in paint...maybe that's just the nyc version, but dang i loved that show. and don't forget to sing along to the stupid sing along song, good and loud too...ya gotta. those guys are freakin genius, truly. inspired nonsense, and the most said with no words ever. go!

The real deal's pretty great- I've seen the Chicago show live and the Vegas show (in segments) taped- There's a DVD of the THE COMPLEX show available now, for (relatively) cheap thrills. Or just sit in front of the tube until a Pentium commercial comes on.....

There's a great EL wire costume in the Vegas show, BTW- A striped dress worn by the female vocalist on "White Rabbit" and "I Feel Love".

ima gonna date myself but I saw blue man once at their first venue on bowery just down the street from my pad in NYC. Back the they were getting crowds of about 200.

Like was mentioned above the blue man (some of them) have been attending BM for years. Some aspects of their show (use of EL wire in vegas show) is BM inspired.

My friend is a Blue Man for the Begas Luxor show. He has a great time doing the show but like mentioned above does not do the BM character at the burn.

Thats jeff from the vegas show. He camps with my theme camp the Love Project.

I was just in Vegas last weekend, (FUCK that was fun!) went to the Luxor, was wondering if that show was worth it...
I'm going back in March (turning into a Vegas junkie, maybe replace Bman?) so what's the word? Worth the $200 (for two) or so to see Blue Man?
Anyone seen Cirque De Soliel? I was told that was the "don't miss" show by a few people.

I saw BMG at Luxor the day after 9/11, definitely worth the price of admission. Seriously put a dent in my mourning for a few hours. IMO, Luxor owns in general but I'm biased

Captain, I caught CdS's Mystere too, haven't seen O unfortunately. Mystere is good

Cirque du Soleil, anything from them is worth seeing but the last time I went to Vegas I just couldn't swing the ticket to O. However cool it looked. If you want to kick out $150 - $200 per person, go for it and I'll be jealous

Skip the shenanigans at Excalibur, though. I'd only recommend it for the Friesian horse fans and the dragon knight costumes, which are cool (but the ones on the runners alongside Draka are better). It's cheap, it's dumb, the food's only so-so. Excalibur tries to make itself a family-friendly casino and fails predictably.

For anyone else, without the budget, don't worry about it. Just go over to Mirage if you're not already staying there and wander around, the volcano rocks. If Luxor is booked up, Mirage is my fallback choice.

A week ago or so I played "I Feel Love" from the bmg's website for my little girls before school. The smallest two were mesmerized; the oldest ran out of hte house and then peeked through the window from outside to watch the rest. All the way to school she fretted about why those people were blue and how she was going to be worried thinking about it all day.

When we got home, they all three requested to hear it again. And again. And again. The oldest has decided now that blue people are pretty cool.

Right now Claire Bee, age three, is singing "i feel love, i feel love, i feel love, i feeeeeel love," pointing at the speakers, and starting to get irate that I've not put the song on yet.

Yeah we had a kick ass stage set up for our kareoke last year. Im pretty sure it will be back...

Cirque's O Show is not to be missed! From someone who has seen it all, I tell ya, it is the ultimate in theater, costuming, stage sets, magic, art, music, and talent.
