Looking for burners coming out of Mexico. :)

I know that we had a young woman asking for what would make nice gifts from Mexico. Use the search function. Also check for any regional action on the main site. I believe we have a costa rican posting here sometimes too, for what that's worth.

thank you crypyofishist! got in touch ... mexico has no regional contacts. there are many wonderful people at brc, so its really not very important, but i wonder, are there other burners living in mexico? strange no? so close, yet so far away ... :)

The regionals represent only a fraction of the actual number of burners. I'm sure there are plenty around, just where to find them. I wonder if cultural and economic barriers play a part, because I don't see a lot of mexican americans on playa (well, as far as I can tell) and I'd not be surprized to find out that a smaller percentage of the population attends than from any area in the states a similier distance away...

there is supposed to be a girl living in oaxaca also (thats where i am).
she was gonna get in touch me but never did. dunno if it was a story (cant see why) or what...too bad.

well, it does get expensive doesn't it? that is certainly an issue, but I think it might just be that burningman is not well known in mexican subcultures.

Oh, absolutely. And the reputation of Mexican culture is that it would be a little too conservative for a lot of what goes on. (You're the expert here, I'm working on the information I have.) On another level, I think that there might be a good fit too. Day of the Dead and other of the Catholic remakes of native culture seem very close to some of what goes on at BM. But there's a lot of entrenched poverty and I suspect that the upper and middle classes are striving to be more main stream american than bohemian. VERY ROUGH GUESSES that don't go into a lot of nuance.
