I'm doing a video installation in Center Camp this year entitled "The Youniversal Mirror of the Collective Unconscious" As this is self-funded and I am a broke self-employed artist, I am asking my burning brothers and sisters to help me out with the materials I need, and their transport to the playa.
I am building a shed-like structure to house a TV monitor, with a window cut out where a partially rubbed out mirror will be placed.
1. Wood - If you will be arriving 4 days or more before the Monday start of the event, and can bring lumber for me (four 2x4s or 4x4s - 8 feet long, plywood for the sides, thick enough to support people potentially leaning on it) or perhaps even better, if you have an outhouse-sized shed that could be pulled apart and transported for me to reassemble on the playa.
2. Other Materials - If you live in the Pacific Northwest (I'm in Vancouver BC but occasionally get down as far south as the Portland area) and can provide: (I can pick up)
- a large mirror (27 inches or more in diameter and height) I will need this by June so I can start treating it and testing it with the video display.
-a 27" inch TV set - I would say this could be a loan, I will be attempting to house it in a sealed environment, but it's the playa and it might get wrecked by the dust or other elements... Same goes for
-a DVD player or VCR with looped playback function.
If you can help with any of these requests pls reply or email me-

Um. Sorry to go all gravity on you, but one thing that happens on this board is that people, for good or ill, get a crash course in one of the long term core principles--self relience--of the event. The feeling here is that if you can't get your ticket without help, you're going to be a drag on the energy and vitality of a city without infrastructure--no grocery stores, no running water, no electricy, no plumbing. Perhaps we are a good reality check, perhaps we are a pathetic rearguard action as the event draws more and more people and becomes less and less a do-it-yourself city. Time will tell. Many of us do offer encouragement and friendliness on the slightest excuse--so perhaps having some standard keeps us from burning out.
My guess is if the op shows herself capable with only one or two taps of the clue bat, she will be warmly welcomed.

Just because I don't have a lot of money doesn't mean I don't contribute to the event and the community. It's been a challenge to get down to the burn the last two years, and of course it's for my own enjoyment, but I've also worked hard to enhance others' experiences and share the message of the event through the media and art work I have done, (for i.e. see my web-doc "Give it Away Now" on last year's event in the press links) as well as other on-and-off playa volunteer activites. I'm excited about expanding that goal by putting on an installation this year and have already put in a lot of time and effort into preparing this piece. If it makes some of you feel superior to flame me, go ahead. My installation will get made with or without your help. I just figured it doesn't hurt to ask - maybe someone has these things lying around and would enjoy being a part of the project.

Always best to mention the work you've done before asking for help. People are more willing to believe you're serious about the game after you've anted.
