Martini A Go Go 2007 Needs Professional Concert Pianist

Post by axel » Mon Sep 11, 2006 10:29 am

We're looking for a concert pianist who can perform on a baby grand (hopefully we can score one) or stand up on our roving art car during the morning Bloody Mary cocktail hours. The piano will be rolled off for the afternoon and evening dance parties. Looking for classical music tunes, as well as can do requests or get people to do a sing a long on the Cracken. The Martini A Go Go is a magical beast: feed it and it will provide.

I'm not great with cocktail tunes or classical tunes, but I'd love to improvise some crazy modernist "inside the piano" stuff if you're able to get a piano out on the playa. That thing's gonna get destroyed by the dust! Tune it before coming and every day during.

from experience...if you bring a piano, the players will come-some will be amazing, some not so much, but all interesting to listen to. Any piano will need to be cleaned(burners love vinegar) after it leaves the playa. If you're concerned about tuning, don't bother...playa tuning sounds good!?! after 10 days. We've saved pianos from 'dump runs', brought them to the playa with intention to burn (yes, in a pan; yes, we would remove all debris from said pan), and each time some*lucky* burner took a playafied piano home!! Folks really enjoy a piano on the playa - I think there were 6 this year, and three weren't worth playing(art/junk). Grand pianos are better for standing/ lying/whatevering! on, of course...

alas, I don't know my way around a piano but I wanted to wish you good luck.
I had *so* much fun on the Martini A Go Go art car this year. I hopped on with a friend at Chance and around 6:00 I think, the night of the Man's burn and hopped off hours later. Wow, what a blast... great music, people and drinks... paradise indeed :-) Thanks so much for being out there this year.

I also like the piano bar idea. live music is great in all forms. even the bad music has its own charm.
I had one given to me but I did not take it... wish I did now.
