I got a piece of fabric at a sewing store for like $8.00,
wraped it around my fat waist,
and bingo!
I had a cheap sarong, similar to a kilt

Well its plaid...though not all kilts are plaid...but a start.

Thrift store + women's pleated black skirt with elastic waistband = my 1/8th-assed-kilt. $4.

Yes - I know that's it's not a kilt.

No offense taken. Thinking about it, getting killled over fabric seems kinda silly. But the Brits were kinda dickish that way.

It wasn't the fabric, it was the symbolism behind the fabric. But the Brits were definitely dickish!

Tartans were not assigned uniquely to individual clans, you mean. :)
People have been making all sorts of plaid since the beginning of weavng.

At one point, it was forbidden, punishable by death to wear a tartan in scotland.
