"Or could just put the card inside of a wallet slip with transaction record pad- even another thought- have the minutes on the plastic card and have a hole-puncher to subtract"

After you figure out the details, send me the concept and the text that you want for both sides in a PM and I'll take care of it for you.

This was posted last year. It is a foldable pocket organizer made from a single sheet of paper. I organized it last year will all my flight info and contacts. It allowed me to leave a lot of things home as well as get organized. I also used it to collect contact info from new playa playmates.

Check it out, it fun and easy.

i just graduated from art school (photo major) so i had a ton of otherwise useless shit to clear out of my studio.. so now i am using it to make party pandas!

basically they are going to be multi-purpose decorated film canisters on strings/necklaces, made to look like hyper-color pandas (with leftover neon colored pom pom balls) even with little glow sticks in their pom pom hands. so you can use it as a shot glass, a moop container (esp. if you smoke it can be an ashtray) a small trinket (or drug ;) holder, etc.. and i think i'll put a piece of candy in them :) (i'll post a pic once i get them finished)

oh and i made 50 bracelets from leftover plastic beads i used for a film project.. lots of hours and love went into all of them!

I've heard that film canisters have trace amounts of chemical nasties and are not "food-safe."

I have always been partial to spankings. They make excellent gifts. Especially if you see a cute person. Especially especially if you see a cute girl and tell your guy friends that you could mack on her way better than them and go up and ask her if she'd like a spanking and she says "Yes, please." That's always great. Especially especially especially cuz im not into girls hahahaha :P

One of the many many events my camp (CRTT - Castra Roto Thema Thematis) does is "Candy or a Spanking", the name pretty much speaks for itself... look us up if you want a good one!

I've been gifting little bubble bottles for the past few years, who doesn't like bubbles? (I don't force anyone, they're just there for the taking.) But I decorate them with labels with my artwork. Last year it was a green man face I drew in illustrator. This year I'm scanning a painting my mom did of the Joad's truck from "Grapes of Wrath", really really beautiful. (She does the signage for the theatre I design for, after the show closed we had to keep the sign.) What's more American Dream than the sad image of that loaded down truck?

Jewels

Post by racheltoba » Tue Jun 10, 2008 6:26 pm

I am a Jewelry designer from Minneapolis, and I have already started to make earrings to give as gifts. This is extremely time consuming, but I love putting in effort into each individual pair. I will make bracelets as well for those who don't have their ears pierced. I will also bring extra bandanas. :-)

I would really love to see someone who is a graphic designer make a playa ID card and post it here for all to download.
I find myself leaving my wallet with ID locked up for the week and wondered what would happen if I were injured (or passed out drunk) during my travels in BRC. Something with name, address, playa name and BM camp location and BRC contact would be a great playa gift for the community.
Again, designing a credit card size piece (8 to a page) with cool graphics to be down loaded and then passed out by anyone who wants to print them, would be a very cool and thoughtful gift. I can even see a theme camp starting-----Camp Lamination! :D

That's an excellent idea.
I wonder if you'd be able to use it as a second form of i.d. when cashing a check, etc.
That would be totally awesome lol

Probably. I'm guessing that there will be chemical photographers, at least art photgraphers, for a time to come. If you're just snapshots, like me, then digital is the way to go.

Of course, maybe the chemical photogs wont go for 35 mm. Who knows.

we were thinking:

Hug or Tat (choice of one) as gifting from our camp.

you either get a hug from the cute, buxom rusklies or
a Temporary TaT (1 to 2 weeks) from the marginal amercanski (me)

what do you think ?

In this spirit of gifting, I just found bike locks at a large dollar store chain for the amazingly low price of a buck! I bought a big pile of them to pass out, but would like to let everyone know that the store-- Dollar Tree can help secure your bikes really cheaply. They are probably not the best quality, but appear to be pretty sturdy to me.
Sorry to mention a store by name, but this is really a great price and an excellent idea for anyone trying to figure out something useful to gift.

Best Playa gifts ever received: A plane ride over the playa, Ice cold peaches, cold lemonade on a hot day, lending a helping hand or tool, a good laugh, offering me cover during a dust storm, a shot, handmade jewelry, a compliment, a smile, and other meaningful handmade randomness. The best gifts are sentimental or have thought put into them.

Not so good playa gifts: candy, raver jewelry, hemp, crystals or rocks of any kind, an unsolicited naked sweaty hug, gum ball machine toys, stuff with logos or websites

It's a matter of preference. I am hand making around ten or more animal-like high quality moop free fur hats to hand to people who like that kind of crap and out because I have an excess of synthetic fur laying around from costumes that I make and sell. The fur thing seems to be popular and I always meet people who wish they had something "fun" to wear.

I work in a micro-winery and I was thinking about bringing small gift sized bottles of wine with the man and some other art printed on them. Good Idea?

My gift last year: chilled M&Ms.
Keep a jumbo-sized bag of M&Ms in the cooler. When going out and about, put a bunch in a smaller baggie for hand-outs. P.S. More sanitary to pour a few in someone's hand than to let them reach in.

You can get instant laminators at most office supply stores. They are a little bigger than a credit card, two layers of clear plastic sealed along one of the short edges. You place whatever you want to laminate in between the sheets, peel off the protective backing from the inside of the top sheet, and press the sides together. Voila! Instant laminated ID card. Pretty brilliant plan though. I think at the very least I'll do this for myself and my camp. If you get a full-on ID station going out there keep us updated.

Capital idea, sir.

Talk about saving someone's burn... Maybe you could give them out with the understanding that the giftee "pay it forward" to somebody else next year, maybe include a place to sign and date it! Or not. Either way, it's a great gift idea.

Thanks EB! As I go through surplus stores, I have the infectous habit of looking for things that could be used on the playa. I just found a large quantity of red, white and blue bandanas. After last years Friday dust storm and seeing so many people unprepared for it, I think this would be a useful item to pass out.
If I ever stop going to Burning Man, I am going to end up with a basement full of playa crap. Maybe I will just keep going until I am too senile to know any better!
